Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Yeovil Town

Let's be honest - that was and continues to be nowhere near good enough.
Our home record is diabolical which is shameful given the consistent levels of positive support at the Hall.
After going 1-0 down you would have expected us to go a little more gung-ho, but what did we do....ah yes, proceed to keep playing the ball sideways and backwards.

We look a long way from being a good team - Yeovil were trash just like 90% of the teams at this level, but we could have had 12 men today and we still wouldn't have broken them down.

Ref came to make a name for herself and succeeded. I don’t think anyone is saying that it wasn’t handball outside the box but the ref played a very clear advantage. There is absolutely no way there’s a red card of Yeovil score from the advantage. If it was deemed a clear goal scoring opportunity the game should have been stopped immediately. No real complaints about Kev’s red either tbh, the decision in question wasn’t a penalty, Bim was going down way before the keeper made contact. But Kev needs to wind his neck in a bit as he’s getting a bit of a reputation for this and that will lead to us getting even less decision as refs are that pathetic.

One thing as well that we really need to sort out is how we handle the minutes silence following The Last Post. There is confusion every single year of “are we finished yet?”

There needs to be a clear announcement that the minutes silence will follow. Even the players were confused.

Last week some were criticised Colin and this week it's his replacement.
What people need to understand both are young goalkeepers learning there trade and likely to make mistakes which they have done.
Is it time for Kev to bring in a more experienced goalkeeper?

Two teams trying to get the ball on the deck and play football, but the game turned on the sending off, and I feel the officials lost control.

The sending off was an odd one for me. It didn't look like it hit his arm directly from where I was sat - bounced up, hit his stomach and then touched his arm?

Also, my understanding when it comes to a 'keeper handling outside the area is that it's a red card offence if an "obvious goalscoring opportunity" has been denied. Otherwise it's a yellow card offence. Well......the referee played advantage, and Yeovil had a goalscoring opportunity which they subsequently missed. So was a goalscoring opportunity denied? What would she had done if they had scored? Would that have changed the colour of card given?

I reckon there might be grounds for an appeal there.

Regardless, we were a bit blunt. Yeovil were poor and I think they were very beatable, even with 10 men, but we didn't get the ball into the box anywhere near enough.

Whilst I didn't think Yeovil looked a great team - they are on form, think that's them 8 unbeaten in the league now, I think only FGR are on better form

Total pony. We reverted to type. Again. Overpassing yet again. Last moments of first half and we do a short corner. Jeeez. As for Walker subbed, so what? In recent games he has come on as a sub and made little or no impact and today, down to ten, his absence made no material difference. In the last two previous games Bonne looked a bit more useful, so he gets benched against one of the shorter defences we have played. You can't make it up. We can moan about the poor referee, equally poor last term at Bromley away? I think it was, but we were never up for that game from the off. We lacked early press and watched as Yeovil matched our pitiful passing game and bettered it. Our only salvation was that Yeovil had as little goal nous as us.

We could have played all night and not scored. Once again our manager’s ‘ play not to lose’ tactics have cost us. It wouldn’t matter if we had a top premier league striker on the pitch he would never score because of lack of supply. We really are poor in the creativity dept, and I am sorry to say that this is down to an over cautious manager along with over regimental and predictable tactics.
P.s where are all the Collin knockers who called for him to be dropped only to see their newfound hero make a mistake and get sent off?

I don’t see the value in bringing in an even more inexperienced goalkeeper than Collin as his competition. We’d be better off with a 35+ year old as our other keeper. Jeacock’s blunder cost us the game.

Pepple looked as if he went down easily in the penalty box, didn’t look like a pen to me.

Maher berates the officials continuously every game, it’s pointless and not a surprise they are now clamping down on him. He should focus on coaching his own team, he deserves the fines and suspensions he gets.

Hate football
Hate this ****ing league
Hate losing to teams like that today and to a complete fluke
Kev needs to take a long hard look at himself. Getting sent off today after already receiving a yellow and just back from a ban is reckless
Not sure the red fir Jeacock should have been a red, as she played on and they had a shot blocked so did he deny a goal scoring chance?
However even with 10 men surely we can muster a few shots on goal
Our set pieces were poor especially Bridge, when down to 10 men you need to take advantage of these situations which we didn’t
Yeovil sit 7th and we’re average at best. Passed it around nicely but created very little against our ten men. This league is so poor this year yet we can’t take advantage. One step forward and two back it seems
Subs odd, why take Bridge off which was right but put a RB on in his position when you have a left footed player who scored a hat trail midweek on the bench. If wood can’t get on in a game like today what’s the point.
First half was not a penalty, Bim was going down before the keeper touched him
Really felt we’d win well today and who knows what might have happened with 11v11 but it was a poor game between two poor sides on the day. 0-0 would have been a fair result.
Onto next week and a trip to one of our bogey sides. Need a big reaction

Well its what i feared ,after the effort in the Charlton game . Also fear Kev is beginning to stand on thin ice ,take that how you want , but COSU putting good money into the club will expect better especially at home matches, we have decent strikers just poor tactics dont allow them to ply there trade thats scoring goals .Yes i expect some negative feed back with what im saying, but i tell you this if i was a member of COSU and putting decent money into the club i would expect better from the management ( Kev and co ) than is being produced, the love affair with Kev and co must be wearing thin . Make all the excuses you like about crap refs etc i would expect more from the management and players .
