Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Yeovil Town

Another heroic defeat. I certainly couldn't fault the fitness or effort that the players put in, but an equaliser just did not look likely, and so it turned out. You had to give Yeovil credit as they played very neat football, mostly to feet and were very quick to boot. Their goal? **** happens, and he won't get another cross to fly into the goal a again this season I bet.

Until the sending off it was a pretty even game with both teams matching each other. Even after the goal there was still hope that an equaliser would happen on balance of play, but not to be sadly. Mr Jeacock will have learnt a painful lesson from the sending off, but ironically it now leaves the way open for Collin to step up again. I do wonder whether Kevin May-her (well pronounced Mickey G) will learn to keep his mouth shut, probably not, as he has previous, but that is no example to his team.

Defensively I thought we kept our shape well and we certainly kept the Yeovil attack at bay well apart from the goal. In the middle players ran their socks off, but I think the time is soon approaching where Noor needs a rest and Cav Miley starts a game. Will that be at Altrincham? maybe.

I'll let you decide if this is misogyny.

Women have a physical ability as do men and both have an understanding of it.
When a woman refs a womans game they know what that limit is.
When they ref a mens game, they see a lot more physicality than the women's game and so I think have to guess at where the boundary is between physical strength and being overly aggressive.

This happened numerous times today with Bim. He is a strong lad who outmuscled his marker time after time yet got blown up for a foul every time. Pure strength won him the ball on those occasions yet the ref saw it as being overly aggressive and blew up for a foul.
He plays like that every week, we scored twice against Tamworth where he used his strength to win the ball yet today that strength was continually seen as being overly aggressive.

I can't see any reason for men to ref women's football or women to ref men's football other than to tick the boxes of the woke snowflake society
They have to 'guess'? Not sure they guess. They make a decision, which is deemed right or wrong.
The thing is they make that decision in a split second. They don't give a decision if unsure. So guess doesn't come into it. They just get it wrong.
If I'm reading you correctly, the ref's decision making was as a result of her officiating at women's matches and not being able to discern between those and men's games?
Abigail Byrne has refereed 10 games this season, 50% of which were men's matches at various levels.
The match before this was the EFT tie between Posh and Palace U21s this week.
And there was I thinking mods didn't allow political terminology, and here they are endorsing it. What do I know, eh?

Ref came to make a name for herself and succeeded. I don’t think anyone is saying that it wasn’t handball outside the box but the ref played a very clear advantage. There is absolutely no way there’s a red card of Yeovil score from the advantage. If it was deemed a clear goal scoring opportunity the game should have been stopped immediately. No real complaints about Kev’s red either tbh, the decision in question wasn’t a penalty, Bim was going down way before the keeper made contact. But Kev needs to wind his neck in a bit as he’s getting a bit of a reputation for this and that will lead to us getting even less decision as refs are that pathetic.

One thing as well that we really need to sort out is how we handle the minutes silence following The Last Post. There is confusion every single year of “are we finished yet?”

There needs to be a clear announcement that the minutes silence will follow. Even the players were confused.
Hearing the last post applauded was a first for me just so wrong, announcer please sort it the **** out next year embarrassing for the club and those that applauded.

But never transforms to the first team sadly. I see your point though.
We had 4 subs to use, you would have thought he'd be given a go. At least he runs at teams...maybe that's what Kev doesn't like! Just disappointed he didn't play his form striker after hatrick against a reasonable Hashtag side.
Just worried about some of these on field decisions that go against us.
We should be putting these teams to the sword...

The red card- if that had been Collin the abuse would have been flowing. We have a young goalkeeper who makes a few mistakes, and we are giving him some time out be bring in the safe hands of an even less experienced keeper who it appears will make the same mistakes…

The National League is no longer an amateur league and deserves a certain standard of officials. The general standard is utterly shocking- I tend not blame the referee today who was clearly way out of her depth but not far off the general standards, but the administrators who are clearly failing abysmally. Whoever is responsible for refereeing standards at this level should go and a clear plan be made to provide officials commensurate with the professional game.

Kev was sent off because there is apparently new guidance that when appealing a decision managers and coaches shouldn’t put their arms in the air…yes folks that is the depth we now plough and I refer you to the paragraph above…

Re the game the effort was there with 10 men but Yeovil were just good enough. Re their goal it reminded of Bentley being beaten by a similar miss hit cross at Gillingham. Happens when you need a bit of luck and aren’t getting it…

Where to start?

Game ruined within 30 minutes thanks to an idiotic referee and a dreadful goalkeeper mistake gives the ref a great reason to make the game all about her.

But to be honest we looked so poor. Misplaced passes, sideways and backwards. We could have played with 11 until next week and still not scored.

A total bore fest that would normally end a 0-0 draw, as Yeovil were just as great at playing it sideways and backwards.

There’s a time and place for that football but it’s getting so tedious watching us attempt it in this ****house league with players who aren’t up to it.

I was expecting a comedown after last week’s showing but not quite as bad as that.

Edit: Oh and for that **** Nouble, forgot he even existed until today he’s that irrelevant. He’s that bad he has to give it large when a teammate scores as he can’t bag one himself 😂😂
Just to be clear.
Are you saying she had already ruined the game by 30 minutes? Or ruined it by sending off Jeacock?

It’s hard to say what happened in relation to Maher as I am in the west stand. What I would say tho is that this is not the first issue he has had with the officials this season and on that point you wonder if he is setting the right example to his players .. I thought that the red card was fair as the goalkeeper clearly handballed it ( my only doubt was if he was the last man) .. what happened in the directors box will probably come out at some point … not a great day to be a Shrimper 🦐

What happened in the director's box?

Was it woke or snowflake that triggered you to run to the mods?

Kev needs to take a long hard look at himself. Getting sent off today after already receiving a yellow and just back from a ban is reckless
Really can't have a dig at Kev. Before he has ripped at refs, but today he genuinely didn't say anything out of place, which is why he was utterly bemused at getting any card. All he did was question why we didn't get a penalty, and even then, his comments were really mild and not aggressive.

The 4th was after him from the word go. Same with Daz and Benno. We've had that 4th before and he has it out for them for some reason. Absolute tosser and the ref did what she was told by him.

****e game which was ruined by a ref who I can only assume was a competition winner?

I frankly wouldn’t trust her to officiate a village raffle. Come back Trevor Kettle, all is forgiven.

Nouble, what a weirdo. The big useless **** absolutely folds under the slightest bit of pressure, but was the hardest man on the planet when the farmers scored and he plucked up the courage to goad the East Stand (the ****ing East stand, of all stands 😂😂😂) Personification of a keyboard warrior.

It’s been a **** day at the office & a complete 180 from last weekend. But I ****ing love this club, so bollocks, let’s get on it.
Abigail Byrne from Mildenhall, a FIFA Woman Referee, who is one of our top female officials having done the Women’s Cup Final at Wembley and officiated at all the top grounds.
