Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Sittingbourne Town

You make a fair point but a big issue is that we have signed too many players who don't seem comfortable making runs and passes forward. Also very few players who are good finishers. The goal scoring career records for this current squad is really woeful and pathetic. Kevin has presumably sanctioned these signings and must take a fair share of the blame. The big problem is that we are stuck with too many of them on longish contracts. It's going to be a he'll of a job to turn this club into one that can challenge for promotion even in this non league competition.
My point about defensive players v attacking players.

We had 3 strikers playing upfront and they were the only attack minded in the line up.

These players are also however not opportunity creators.

So you're expecting 8 defensive players to move the team forward and create opportunities.

How many times.

I like the step to 3 players upfront because it puts more pressure on defences and more players forward which we've also struggled with (other than in a low block) but they are not creators, so you're reliant on 2 full backs playing wing back and 2 central midfielders both who are playing in a 2 with only 3 behind them.

No wonder we saw what we did.

To me Maher is the issue here. Players yes didn't do well but how long will it take to realise (now 3 years) that if you're playing draughts you won't win a chess game.

Don't worry, the dynamic duo Husin and Miley will be back next week to drive us even further backwards, Maher has got to go.
The Cowleys are on a different planet for passion and tactics, never thought i would say that!

Slagging off two players who didn't play any part in that debacle is an interesting angle to take.

Haven't you been championing for the apparently more attack-minded KAF to be a regular starter? The same player who today looked out of his depth against Isthmian League opposition?

Just saying that King Kev will use yesterday’s debacle to shoe horn back in his absolute favourite two negative midfielders. KAF was loved at Daggers but as usual as soon as anyone comes here they get ruined…..he really is the worst, inconsistent, boring manager around but we’ve got to put up with the crowd reducer for a year longer than anyone else because he’s a so called Southend legend….most jobs you’d get the elbow being this ineffective

Before you shoot the messanger After the last to leauge games we scored 4 and conceded 0 .So at that point mayer got things right .Yes we lost today to a lower leauge club .But this is not the first time this has happened And it may not be the last .Things look bad after that defeat But with new players coming in And maybe a couple more Our leauge position is in a good place right now and hopfully it will get better fingers crossed UTB .

You absolutely can blame Maher for that! I don’t see him balling players out, subbing them off before half time etc! If he’s in charge, he must be in charge! He’s pathetic on the touchline unless he’s upset about a decision and in interview he doesn’t take responsibility. Thanks for the memories. Bye!
And neither should you. Anything like that should stay in the dressing room. Publicly belittling professional players destroys confidence and decimates team morale.

He gave KAF a chance against a low league side. He is using rotation, he should be able to trust those in his squad, again the level of oposition is poor and theres a lot of fixture congestion so use the squad.

He couldve, but when Coker came on, he did nothing?
Harsh to say Coker did nothing. He put it a few decent balls into the area. Also, Coker was part of the midfield that played Dagenham and did fine with Morton. However, he got left out Tuesday and today.

There was no reason whatsoever to take off a forward for a midfielder - that is 1000% on Maher!!

When we had 3 up, at least the ball more often than not, was sticking up there. As soon as we went 2 up top, we had no outlet (it was the same against Barnet, and has been the same for most of the season, yet Maher still persist with it).

This resulted in Sittingbourne putting pressure on us towards the end, winning corners, which lead to the goal.

Those criticising KAF, I feel are being a bit harsh. He had a couple of decent shots in the first half (only player that probably did).

If you paid close attention, Ralph hardly got forward in the first half, which is one reason why I don't like him at LWB.

There was no urgency to get the ball forward from the back, the number of times Taylor (and I rate him as RCB) got the ball spent ages looking around, only to then pass it sideways. Not one of the CBs took a drive forwards to create any space.

Up front, Kendall (who I thought had been playing well recently, but needs a goal), Hopper and Walker were quite poor together. It felt like 3 individuals, rather than a trio. I know Bonne messed up for their goal (but it shouldn't have still be 0-0 anyway), however I think he should have started and not Hopper.

I don’t know where the blame lays for yesterday’s defeat against Sittingbourne.
But come on Kev they are your players, surely they all can’t be that bad. Tactically I do think the team are set up not to loose, but when playing a team many leagues below us at home . You need to take a look at yourself Kev this isn’t good enough.

The players who was under performing shouldn’t never wear our shirt again, I bet some of them wouldn’t be starting for Sittingbourne at all.

Playing Ralph as LWB was suicidal, to make 3-4-3 work, it’s need WB act like an winger with speeds and crossing ability.
