Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Sittingbourne Town

Players under the bus. Most possession was in our own half, sideways and backwards. We didn't take it to the opposition at pace or get in behind them. Like so many games we were so ponderous the Sittingbourne defence had oodles of time to be back and set.
The players, almost to a man, should indeed be ashamed by their lack of decent performance. If players are not carrying out the managers instructions, as implied by KM so many times, then the manager is not managing. Sittingbourne were not a good side but were let off the hook by us not turning up.
Not too far short of 5000 fans for an FA potty Trophy game and they are insulted by the lack of pride and passion on the pitch.
The players need to accept responsibility but, so do the coaching staff. Today the club did not deserve the badge they wear or the loyalty of the supporters. Shame on them all.
Point fingers KM but do it in the mirror too.

The East Stand is in dire need of knocking down and rebuilding, it can't come soon enough for that stand
Maybe controversial, but I love the East Stand. Old fashioned, yes, and it does need tearing down and rebuilding in the long term.

But right now it’s home for me, and a proper purpose built stand, rather than the seats bolted on to a terrace West stand with umpteen pillars and a ladder blocking your view. Hearing all the West stand regulars Discussing has been quite funny really. Sorry for going off topic, blame @Shrimper for starting it!

The past 2 games were an ever slight improvement although against sides we should be beating anyway, but todays game, personally for me, was the end of my tether and support for Kev. I think it is time for a change and do not believe Kev is any better than a mid table side manager.

A lot will disagree, as you will have the right to but personally I see too much tactical inconsistency, poor changes and substitutes, he saved us in a time in need but in a time of building and actually being able to challenge properly, we have not done so. Yes you can put some of that down to recruitment, which in itself has been poor, but we were able to peform above par with a poor team not being paid and we all thought he was a tactical genius. I think its time to part ways, find someone to carry us to the end of the season and try and boost us somewhere close, if not, in the playoffs and see what we can find for the summer.

Not to rub salt into the wounds but since the 24th Feb 2024 when we beat Aldershot 4-1 we have won two games at home on a Saturday at 3pm.

2-0 vs Tamworth (league)
1-0 vs Southport (cup)

Say what you like about today but it’s not a one off. Something drastic needs to change even if we are to target next
Holy ****. That is a serious stat. No wonder I’m so depressed at weekends . Nearly a year

Cup upsets happen, and it results in a bad day at the office for the beaten team and wild celebrations for the victor. They rarely define a season for either team.

The team and coaches will learn from this and move on. We now have a week to get another one or two bodies in, bed in the ones we have signed and get illness out the camp. We’re still three pints of the playoffs and the season isn’t over.

None of this Maher out rubbish - let’s still get behind the boys. Days like today happen, it’s how we respond in the league that matters now.

I read a lot on here and don't post at all. Supporting from a distance has its limitations, but watch every game on Dasn. Humbly accept all that you say, but was it a surprise? And that's the problem. We are living on the past or haven't journeyed how far we have fallen. Looking for words to rally the masses, but there are none. Not apportioning blame, because its above my pay scale or knowledge base but this needs to be embarrassing and totally unacceptable if we have any dreams of playing in the efl again.

Agree. Love the east stand. Not saying it doesnt need improving and has many faults. But im as passionate about the east stand as im sure west and south dwellers are. Ive sat in all. East was home to me for 20+ years.

Bring back Friday night games

Can't blame Maher for that, the team he put out should have won that with a bit to spare.

The players should hang their head in shame for that performance.
You absolutely can blame Maher for that! I don’t see him balling players out, subbing them off before half time etc! If he’s in charge, he must be in charge! He’s pathetic on the touchline unless he’s upset about a decision and in interview he doesn’t take responsibility. Thanks for the memories. Bye!

Love the East Stand too! The only slightly positive about today’s result is that we don’t have to have the south and west fans in the east anymore! Such a less enjoyable experience when they’re in there! 🤣

Some fans think if you’d don’t clap and cheer the players every game you aren’t a real supporter. We have such a soft fan base.
Just because we've been through hell and back in the last few years, it doesn't mean we shouldn't expect better from the current dross we're seeing week in week out.

As a club we've picked ourselves up off the canvas, but there seems to be no willingness to fight back.

Only one who cares on the pitch is a loanee on loan from Colchester of all teams! Need more players like him.

We don't have a naturally verbal leader on the pitch to drive the team. Not many of them at all are that loudly verbal and even shxttingborne got in the refs ear in a way we never do any more.
Act like a victim and you get mugged! We clearly haven't learnt our lesson.
Maybe Goodliffe will become a leader. I hope someone does.
Not a leader in our entire squad and I said this weeks ago, we are so quiet and not one player in that team stands up for themselves or their teammates. Not one of them captain material.

We don't get out of this horrible division with what we have atm. I'll take 11 horrible pieces of work who will dig each other out for not doing their jobs on the pitch, if that gets us out of this ****.

No accountability in our current team. The fact someone from the Ewes is more wound up we lost today than any contracted player really sums it up.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but we controlled the game and created loads of chances, just same old lack of finishing. We haven’t been outplayed, we’ve been beaten by a fluke goal in the 97th minute. I think people need to calm down a little. It’s only a few days ago we was raving about our form..
This ^

Losing this game is upsetting and embarrassing, but looking back at the game, their keeper made some good saves, they defended in numbers and got some “run of the ball “ moments in their penalty area, our defence was hardly troubled, and our keeper never had to make any “saves” their only attempt on target was a rebound effort from a clearance!
Yes we should have beaten them, but honestly some of the reactions on here…..

I was going to say something similar. No getting away from the poor performance, but sitting near the dug out it didn't seem the team were playing to management orders. Kev was consistently telling them to play forward.
Completely agree with other posters, the two man midfield didn't work but Coker should have replaced a defender not one of our forwards.
It seemed though that when Maher was shouting forwards, the options forward were limited.
