Memory Lane Shower of **** FC… Who did you play for?

I’ve actually lost count of the number of teams I’ve played for. I’ll try to list them out.

Two memorable ones of note. Leigh Rangers under 13. Not only were we utter sheite we were managed by a (later convicted) kiddy fiddler. I never participated but some of the team joined in weekend ‘trophy making’. It was years before I found out the truth. Then my current club out here. Godfathers super vets in a cup final. Came on as sub, after 30 seconds got fouled (defender climbing all over me). Ref blew the whistle, their players moved back for the free kick. I got a yellow card and the kick went the other way much to everyone’s laughter. 30 seconds after that I tweaked hamstring. Game over!

At 58 I haven’t actually played this season (only two games in). I’m genuinely looking for one more game before hanging up the boots but our games tend to be 9pm Ko on a Monday night! Waiting for a rare Friday version. I’ll still have the annual 7s tour next April.

I’m guessing somewhere over 20 clubs when I get them written down.

Edit - I am not actually sure whether Leigh Rangers was under 12 or 13 now

A committed agnostic, in 1969/70 I played up front for the Catholic Society in the Newcastle University Intra-Mural League Division 6 and couldn't hit the proverbial cow's backside with a banjo, apart from one game when I scored 2 own goals defending corners. My playing career ended on the international stage in 1988 in an "Alte Herren" (seniors) match in Germany coming on as a second-half substitute for the British Forces King's School Gütersloh staff against the local RAF seniors team. I scored with a stunning flicked header from a corner which was later chalked off when the ref realised that no one from my team had actually gone off when I came on as sub and we had 12 men on the pitch. Compared with me Brandon Goodship would look like Erling Haaland. I talk a good game, though!

Spent my early years in the Borough combination. Started at Westcliff Amateur 2nd team for 3 seasons till they folded then the first team for a season in the prem.
Moved onto Leigh Times for a few years playing for John Guy.
Then moved to Sunday's and played for Artic FC for a season or 2 before moving onto Belvedere FC in the Southend and District league. Had 2 or 3 good years there, double promotion, cup final at Roots Hall. Had a couple of years off then went back to Belvedere Sunday team for a couple of years
Final season was with SZFC, broke my leg mid season and that was me done.

Westcliff Amateur 2nds and Artic were the shower of Sh*t and Leigh Times weren't much better to be honest

Looks like a good post outside of transfer rumours. Sufc fans best personal footballing successes ?
Possibly as player-manager of two different teams in winning the Pickles Cup (in London) in 1991 and 1993.
Less glorious moments for Homestead (1976) and Southend Collegians (1980/81) - though I did score direct from a corner for SC 3rds in early '81. Quite chuffed to still be playing, albeit walking football (aged 63) for Penwith Nomads - we won the over 60s West Cornwall tourno in the summer. There are, of course, no easy games at this level.

Started my football career at Porters Grange primary school playing alongside Trevor Dawkins , im not sure but i believe Frankie Banks also but im sure he will let me know if my memory is playing tricks, moved away from Southend area wen i was 11 and next played for Eastwood High School, AL Martin Britt school, remember him he led the England youth team when they won the world cup defeating Russia in the final. At the age of 13 family moved back to Southend and i went to Wentworth High School played along side Mickey Wright there, Also turned out on a Sunday for the Boys brigade team, . At 15 i left school , it was either leave school or whack A teacher and get expelled, chose to leave. Started work as a baker ( Gilberts ) in Leigh on London Road so could play much football , Then in 61 My friend Steven Clark came to me and asked me to come along to SUFC COLTS training as they needed a goalkeeper , now i was never a GK when i was playing but i said okay , went along the coaches played a few shots at me and said okay so there i was a GK for the colts side 61 / 62 , i did play one game in the outfield that season when i was chosen to represent the league against another league , how i dont know as i was chosen to play in the midfield, i thought i did particularly well made and assist and scored a goal in a 3-1 victory,, Well as happened iat my work i contacted dematitus and had to give up my aprrenticeship. So got a job on the buses while i waited to go to Emigrate to Australia, played for Southend Transport both football and cricket , no not as a GK in the football and # 4 batsmen in cricket, come August 66 and i was in Australia Melbourne, Met up with what was to be a life long friend at a night club there , Brian Tyler he was from Birmingham origally and a very good footballer trialed for Aston Villa way back, anyway he got me playing at his club Clayton , had to move from my brothers home and moved in with Brian and family. At Clayton who were a Metroplitan division 5 side we won promotion , Brian went on to lay for Box Hill in the State league , i eventually got married moved to Mornington and played there also coached juniors until my work accident when an industrial lawn mower virtually cut off my left foot ,only the fact that it didnt sever the main artery or nerve that my foot was saved after being 2 minutes from dead loss off blood and shock, and 6 hours in surgery that it was svaed . anyway thats my football story .

Hawthorns (home - Snakes Lane)

Played against Rayleigh boys loads with Neil Harris, Scott Forbes and Matt Lockwood!!!
They were quality
Me too with the shipping container for a changing room at Snakes Lane, must have been a different year group though, just remember whitecaps kept stealing our good players with the inducement of better half time oranges.

I moved to this area when I was 14 and started playing for Rayleigh YC and we were worse than ****. Remember losing 18-1. The next season was much better and we won our league cup. Three of us actually played for the Southend youth league representative team. Had one season with Corinthians before moving on to senior football. One year with Benfleet Rangers and one year with Leigh Ramblers before giving up Saturday football for Sundays. Hadleigh Crown for many years before moving to Leigh Ramblers vets. About 30 years and hardly won anything but enjoyed all of it.

OK I’m attempting the list but there will be gaps and I may have to edit later some of the names are escaping me.

Westleigh Junior School (we actually competed in the Southend Junior League as under 10 and 11 ( Mike Beesley trained us for a while)
Leigh Rangers (covered earlier)
Gainsborough Boys FC - 36 goals in my first season as a centre forward, never nearly as prolific since
Hawthorns FC originally Junior League then Sceptre League
Rowe & Pitman (stockbrokers) got to play at Loftus Road and Kenilworth Road, facilities at the latter for players were phenomenal.
ANZ Securities (London Banks League?) - some great venues all over London, always a meal after the game and invariably several or more beers
Southend Manor (who hasn’t!)
Old Edmontonians (Southern Amateur and London old boys league)
Haddon United (Enfield and Edmonton Sunday League)
Sutton Sports (Sceptre League I think)
ShrimperZone FC (co founder and least successful manager!)
Southend Collegians Old Boys (Borough Com Vets league
Samurai Blue (HK legal League)
Dragon Valley FC ( Yau Yee league co-founder)
Back to Samurai Blue as player-coach and silverware!!!!
Spartans FC (HK Legal League)
Godfathers FC (as above - Super Vets)

There’s at least 2 missing so not quite 20. Haven’t scored a competitive goal in 12-1/2 years in HK!

Homestead and then Shoebury Old Boys for me . Going back a long time.

My claim to fame is playing in the same school team as Sir Adam Barrett. Earls Hall Juniors. Pretty sure he was a Striker then as well!
