Seafront/High Street tonight

Just came back from a run and went into Greggs Basildon for a coffee and couldn’t believe a youth just strolled in and took three bottles of the shelf and walked out
The women behind the counter went to chase him and two friends and I told her let them go not worth a stabbing or a beating as I suspect that would have done one or the other
No police about or anyone,me included having the bottle to tackle them so they get away with it
I’m afraid to say, it’s scary and the innocent kids will get caught up in it, wrong place wrong time
I would think their parents are no better and therefore get no guidance

There's been a 30 percent rise in shoplifting over the last year. They do it because they know they'll get away with it. Seems like the police just don't bother with 'smaller' offences nowadays. Too busy attending diversity training courses.

Watched a couple more videos of this online and some of the Southport protests. Back in the day people didn't have mobile phones but had greater respect for police due to them possibly giving you a good clip round the ear so to speak. Nowadays you see these energetic youths bouncing up and down like their on a bouncy castle holding their mobile phone in one hand whilst through a brick in the other.

They know that they can film the police and the police can't touch them for fear of being incriminations etc yet they get to through whatever at police with the words "you can't touch me" probably ringing in their ears

Ha, i'd be there if there was!. Yesterday's scenario was shocking to say the least & not fanning flames on the fire, but where were all the local 'scroats' defending their town ( i still can't call us a City! ).
What used to occur in the late 60's early 70's on a Bank Hol Monday, always saw locals from the surrounding area mob up, to confront the East Londoner's who ventured here to cause mayhem & try to take over the town.
But the scenario has obviously changed as we now find our town invaded during the Summer school holidays FFS!. So much for cameras at all stations & staff notifying stations further up the line of 100's spilling onto the platforms heading east?.
Fast forward 3 1/2 weeks when Daggers play here. Southend Central will be wrapped up with OB, & when they arrive they will be escorted to Roots Hall. So with the info that yesterday's 'invasion' was happening, why were OB caught on the hop & not at the station/s to turn them back when appearing?. No excuses, mega failure?.

People have a lack of pride about where they live... well a lack of pride about anything really.

It really is shocking to see, but there unfortunately seems to be an uprising at the moment; a movement of hate and disregard. Reminds me of the London riots. It'll calm down eventually I guess. People can't handle the heat!

Dear ShrimperZone members. This thread is about the issues on Southend High Street and Sea Front this week. The thread is now moving towards a wider discussion, political, ethnic and whatever else takes your fancy. Please don't use the thread to further your own agenda and to see if you can included stuff that is banned on here. Thanks ever so much.

Think the difference maybe now is the Londoners come down with machetes and it's probably best to let them crack on. I think seeing as it's splashed all over the socials, the police should be far more prepared for this and if Essex Police can't cope, draft in the Met or the army. The reason they come back time and again is because they get away with it.

Maybe the seafront traders could have a whip round for their own private militia?

Not good for family friendly seafront attractions, NHS to patch up, and bystanders?

Essex Police and British Transport should be all over this. Met could do their bit at their end of the train line but having them in the City ought to be a big NO. As for drafting the Army? they are not trained, not equipped, not paid, not warranted for this type of situation and it would be entirely inappropriate and unfair for them to be put in any such position. Army recruiting is difficult enough without it being made harder. Why do you suggest Army?

100% Correct, they enjoy it, they get street cred from it and GET AWAY WITH IT.
Check their tickets, stop and search, arrest any criminals, database check them, get cameras on them, zero tolerance even for foul and abusive language, littering, spitting etc.

I suggested the army (a tad tongue in cheek) as they might be a deterrent.

Of course it's not good for anyone having these kids running about with knives. What I was saying is the local youths should leave them to it. The police and the authorities certainly shouldn't.

There could be an argument for a 2nd "back up" civil organisation on the lines of the US National Guard (which is different from our Territorials) or a quasi Gendarme style which would be auxiliary to emergency services. The PCSO idea was based largely on some continental civic partnership "policing" models BUT is, in many instances a costly waste of time and money .

So the police have reported that they have cottoned onto another planned similar event this week in Southend. This will be interesting. Have they learnt lessons about being proactive rather than reactive. Will they meet and search them at the train stations?

Chief Supt Leighton Hammett said this. “If you are in Southend today, and throughout the rest of the week, you’ll see an even larger visible presence.

“We are working with our partners to ensure if you come to Southend to enjoy our fantastic seafront you feel safe.
“If you see our officers and have any worries or concerns, please come and speak to them. “We are aware of another possible event planned.

“We will be ready for that and will use the tools available to us to prevent any disorder.

“My message is clear - if you’re coming here to create disorder or commit crime, don’t bother.

“If you’re planning to bring weapons, drugs, or carry out violence you’ll be met by officers and dealt with.”

This is where you need info being passed on from the stations they're getting boarding at ( West Ham, Barking etc ) to the authorities in Southend etc.
Of course if these 'pondlifes' had a brain cell between them, they'd get off at Chalkwell as there's a large beach area there, or Westcliff & Southend East as it's only a 10 min walk into town?.
Plus the Chalkwell Fare commence's today, so that could also be the place for them to congregate.
Whatever occurs, there will be a lot of focus on our area from the media this weekend?.

I think it's highly unlikely that the Old Bill read ShrimperZone. It's also highly unlikely that they haven't already had intel from the Met and others long before their dispersal order announcement today. I'd be amazed if we now suffer another invasion of those looking for trouble, but if they are stupid enough to try, I'm sure the Old Bill will ensure that they will wish they hadn't.
