Sophie Hitchon takes BRONZE in the Hammer, our first ever medal in the event.

Absolutely brilliant what an effort and a lovely lady too.
Pity there was only about 1,000 spectators in the stadium, what happened to all the free tickets they were meant to be giving out?

Excellent effort from the Brazilian Pole Vaulter Thiago Braz da Silva he beats a Frenchman for the Gold Medal.
Brazil's first ever athletics Gold, once again pity stadium very empty but the contest did end at nearly midnight their time.
Mind you a men's beach volleyball match has just started and the arena quite full.

Just wait until 2022, if indeed the World Cup goes ahead in Qatar. They've been assembling expensive talent academies and ferrying in hoards of young, African footballers to nationalise them just in time.

Qatar have a very good handball team these days don't they...

Really? I'm glad GB added to the medal tally, but Cavendish is such an ignorant tool.

Quite aside from whether one likes him or not (and I do - often annoying, but always interesting) an Olympic medal is well deserved considering all he has done for British cycling.

I've just watched Ireland's Michael Conlan missing out on a medal in the boxing ring after losing a unanimous decision to Russia's Vladimir Nikitin in the 56kg bantamweight division. I'm totally impartial on this but it's hard not to think that an awful lot of money is heading the judges way after that result. Conlan said some very strong words about the result afterwards which may land him in trouble even though they may have an element of truth about them.

Another avalanche of medals in the cycling tonight, 2 Golds (Jason Kenny in the Keirin, Laura Trott in the Omnium) and a Silver and Bronze. We're smashing the cycling to bits, with 6 golds - 4 more than the next best team Netherlands.

We now have one more medal than we had at this stage in 2012!
