Sorry - not wishing to dampen the mood. Things are certainly infinitely more cheery than this time last year - but many seem to be of the opinion we are going to walk the league, without so much as a cursory glance at what some of our rivals are up to. Personally I'd be expecting a top half finish, optimistic of a play off spot, and not ruling out promotion.

I apologise again for my frustration, but we had this last pre-season too. I was pretty much hounded out for suggesting 3rd from bottom would be a succesful season, being told we were sure to be promoted as we'd signed Louis pishing Soares!

you are actually spot on of course, there are no certainties in football and it could go horribly wrong, but with the signings we have made and the genuine buzz around the place at the moment there is a level of expectation that I havent felt since a certain Mr Webb was taking us through the league, im sure some can cast there mind back to that season we won promotion at bury, that preseason I just knew we were going up I know my old man felt the same and won a fair few quid at the bookies that year.

I'm not sure I can agree...I just never took to Daniel Webb :hilarious:

That story and his tweets today make me think that, subject to wages, this thing really could happen.

That's the only thing that will stop it happening mate!

We are probably borderline in terms of budget at the moment. So it's probably a case of the agent and Brady going back and forth with numbers at the moment.

Here's hoping they can find a figure thats right for both parties. Ideally today, so RR can get his arse up to Jocksville and settle in with his new team mates.

Hopefully fella. It's a difficult one. If they get in Leonard, Ricketts and Parkinson, the budget will be stretched, especially if Paterson doesn't foxtrot oscar. However, you have to say that add those 3 into the mix and even without an additional striker, we have a squad which on paper should gain promotion. With that being the case, it's then up to TB to decide whether he speculates to accumulate (i.e. promotion in itself will make the stretching of the budget worth it and will pay for it - I know that they almost see this as a do-or-die season and desperately want out of this league) or whether he plays it cautious and holds back through fear of missing out on promotion and being lumbered with an unsustainable wage bill in 2012/13.

Decisions!

Thing is, if the wage is fair, Ricketts is just too good a player to pass up.

Of course. And as the deal has not been done yet, you could assume that RR's demands outweigh what we can go to at the moment...

Noticed a Col Ewes scums fans twitted R.Ricketts:

@davioburchio
Dave Burch
@RohanRicketts Give John Ward, Colchester boss a call. We could do with a player like you! L1 football too! Your too good for L2!

Would he fancy joining a tinpot club & play in front of under 4k fans!

It really does all hinge on the interpretation of the word 'reasonable' as far as salary is concerned.

"@davioburchio @rohanricketts Not sure playing in front of crowds of 3k in a lego stadium is a great draw tbf... better off at Roots Hall :)"

Indeed.

And whilst all this is going on, RR's name is being re-tweeted, published in articles, linked to on Facebook etc etc. This is the perfect platform and shop window for him and his agent.

If we don't act. Somebody else will...

Well we will find out if he wants to join a tin pot club and play in front of under 6k fans, if he joins us wont we, remember he has played for Arsenal,Spurs and Wolves.....these players just need security and a contract good enough to pay his bills, lets hope its with us, although the scum up the road would no doubt double what we can pay.

Yeah, Col Ewes are spending money they haven't got, when u see their squad, they are on big wages & looking at the crowds they have, without their owner, they would have racked more debts to pay their players wages.

This is all going to end in tears or fears (sooner than later hopefully, I can't settle down to anything at the moment, with is up in the air). The tears, of course, if he doesn't sign.............and if he does the fears will start about whether he will live up to our expectations! (which do seem to be flying fairly high)

Cowling is slowly backing away from Col Ewe after repeated attempts to get more support in from the locals here and they just dont turn up.

Too be fair, its not a terrible ground and has got decent infrastructure now - plus they have had a decent run of players and managers etc. If they cannot get the crowds in after that, they have no chance.

Weird cos its a big town, but everyone here is so lethargic about so much in Colchester that it frustrates a lot more people than just Robbie Cowling.

Or waiting for Paterson to impress someone.
