Think we can assume then that RR 'trial' is indeed over and a deal is being brokered as we speak? If all sorted, then Ricketts will join up with the squad on a tasty 2-3 year deal as an official Southend player?

Im still worried about Ricketts saying about us offering him a fair deal!! Are we in a position to offer anyone a fair deal? I mean Harris came here as a southend fan and at the end of his career so i would imagine wont be on too much, the beast is on loan so we probably are only paying 50% of wages, Ricketts is still only 28 and i would imagine needs a better deal at this stage? God im such a worrying old woman................sign him up before i have a heart attack !

I would still exercise caution chaps.

Obviously we do want RR, but I imagine we won't be offering him a great deal in terms of wages or length of contract. If that is ok with him, great. High fives all around.

The priority as I keep saying is a Striker. Hopefully we can afford both.

Rickets interview also now on line (are these following the trial matches, or more up to date news?) Anyone any idea where they can be found???..........looked on Echo & OS without success.
I'm an idiot:blush:...........there's the link on twitter. Won't bother to put them up because I assume they will automatically arrive on here before too long. I'm already writing on the RR interview:blush::blush: .....old news!

On twitter, according to his passport. Christ!! Do you need a passport now to go to Scotland????...........that's new.

If they're flying up, they need ID.

This is goin' be another one of those bloody days......... checking on the computer every few minutes for any scrap of news. Only went off for a quarter of an hour to shave and watch a bit of the 14th of July flypast and the story seems to have leapt on a pace. Whilst, initially disappointing that he's not on the plane (wasn't surprised that 'rocket' Leonard was), does this really tell us very much.....apart from that he hasn't yet signed? I would make the same reflection as Beefy, could we expect someone, in the space of less than 48hours to drop everything and run off to Scotland, even if he signs???
GOD!!! Even this post, as I write, seems to be overtaken by events, according to pboreham!

Bah, today's all about Le Tour reaching the mountains. Always good to have a MTF on Bastille Day.

Glad that he's potentially joining up with the squad, means that we should be a lot closer to a deal, but I'll still wait until I see the OS article on his signing before I believe it.

..............and Cavendish dropping out of the reckoning. :winking: Sets off from Saint Gaudens on Saturday morning....the town will be completely blocked off...........like a kid, can't wait for my 'goodies' from the caravan!

:off topic:

None of the sprinters are in the reckoning during the mountain stages, as a rule (*)! Cav's in green at the moment, and that's what matters.

(*That said, if Cadel Evans makes a real tilt for the maillot jaune, how does that affect the race for the maillot vert? Evans is currently 3rd in the overall standings, and 5th in the green standings...)

PS Happy Bastille Day

Well if we CAN then we're in for a great season......

We have five strikers (and Mohsni & Johnson who have played up front) and only two wingers (plus, at a push, Sawyer & Sturrock who can play there to limited success).

We've played most of the last six months with just one striker and two wingers and our best football in pre-season so far seems to have come with that system.

It seems to me that another winger is a far greater priority than yet another striker is.

Latest Twitter update (to Rohan's new best mate, Mr Boreham!)

@pboreham Well if they can sort it out then I can get my head down and prepare for the season. There is a good bunch of lads at the club.

My reply...

@RohanRicketts Great. Just hope a deal can be done, obv. we lg2 at mo, so not exactly flush, but you sound a fair guy... right? :) #hopeful

I think he would be a great attacking addition. PS likes playing with 3 forward players and quite frankly having the choice of playing 3 from Hall, RR, JJ, Corr, Harris, (plus Sturrock, Crawford and Asante) would scare the life out of most teams trying to stop us offensively. We struggled to create and score goals last seasons, therefore the more creative players going forward we add will address this problem. Personally I am excited about the type of attacking players PS looks at and if we can attack teams better next season, I cant see why we wont be there or there abouts near the end of the season.

I can't believe this is even a discussion point. Hall, JJ, RR, Harris on their own are going to tear L2 a new a-hole....Simple as. I'm waiting for RR to sign the dotted line and I'm straight down to the bookies to make a substantial bet!
