I don't know any "sources" within the club, but I've always wondered why someone who is involved in the club and ITK would tell someone. That isn't a stab at anyone, but the only way I can see that someone would say information like this would either be personal gain (i.e. like you said, they could gain power from it), business (i.e. it is Chris Phillip's job to get news) and/or they believe that this information should be in the public domain and fans have the right to know.



Either way, it does risk their position and they could lose out on any future ITK information, so I can see why sources can't be revealed.

It is implausable to imagine a situation where the "source" tells the owners of SZ such sensitive (and so far unsubstantiated) information - without wanting a specific reaction!

Whilst I understand your comment, I can easily imagine a scenario where a friend tells a friend something that is as yet unsubstantiated - ie has no one ever told you that they are looking for a new job or went for an interview? Are they seeking a reaction?

What I don't fully comprehend in this as yet unsubstantiated rumour is how did anyone at Southend find out in the first place as I can't imagine PB telling anyone at the club. Did Sheffield Utd request a 'reference'? Also, what I don't understand is the timing from the Sheffield perspective as it appears that this happened when they were still in the play offs. If they had got promoted, would they not have stuck with Morgan?

If however, PB did apply for this job prior to accepting the Southend role then I have no issue at all with PB as it is clearly a more attractive job. If, under this scenario, he were to be offered the job subsequent to accepting the Southend job then again I have no issue with him if he were to accept it and leave.

IF he applied for the job AFTER accepting the Southend job then I have a major issue with PB.

Lots of 'If' here which is why I will reserve judgement until the rumour dies a death or is found to be true.

Some people do, yes, and sometimes people build relationships. I don't think you're wrong to be skeptical and to ask relevant questions about the rumour and the source. However, that also doesn't make you right in your convictions about what has happened either. Point is, we don't know. So, it remains an unsubstantiated rumour posted by someone who's not normally known for either spouting rubbish or being taken in by it. It's certainly worthy of cautious, reasoned consideration, in my opinion anyway.

There is a vicious rumour that our erst-while manager has applied to become the manager of Sheffield United.

Evidently he got his SUFCs mixed up and ended up at Southend by mistake.

Since posting this have you managed to find out anything else? For example you said he 'has' applied for the managers job at SUFC. Can you qualify that point - do you know if it was before he was appointed manager at Southend or has it been since he was appointed here? Further, do you have any idea why your source would want you to know this information? What did he expect you to do with the information? Are you part of a group who wants to see the downfall of RM? Perhaps if you are able to answer these questions it might enable KH to calm himself a bit!!

A couple of other questions for you - how close is your relationship with Southends CEO? Do you think he has a good working relationship with RM or do you think he has his own agenda?

Im not a fan of Ron Martin these days, but if it turns out PB has applied to be Col U manager and starting he has always hated Southend I wouldnt blame Ron for it, nor would I see that as something that would go anywhere near damaging him.

Im sure if the source wanted to do damage there would be plenty more substantial information at hand...

I think you can take it as a given that the owners and moderators will not put stuff on that is likely to be completely untrue because that will just create more work - unpaid - for them moderating the deluge of posts that such news creates... as we can see here.

Not necessarily. The original post (AFAIR) says this is a rumour, which implies that even the original post(er) thinks there is an element of doubt, even knowing the source. I don't know the source, so I attach even more doubt to it.

I just don't always take things at face value.

What I got from your post was asking if this was part of some scheme to undermine Ron Martin, which in this instance I cant see why it would.

The only thing that would appease Kevin is hard proof. Sadly he couldnt handle the proof. Oh hang on its truth isnt it :smile:

I will try to answer your questions but as I have stated previously, the info I have stated hasn't been verified as I don't know Phil Brown or any of the staff at Sheffield United.

I have heard from two different but very reliable sources the application was after he took on the Southend job.

At the Zone we have people in all sorts of jobs and walks of life who are party to information and , for their own varying reasons, pass us sometimes highly contentious info/rumour/gossip. Only a very small amount of info received makes it to the Zone. We don't want the Zone to turn into another Football Rumours.com site.

Anything we hear we always ask if it is okay to broadcast to our members --- that even applies to info from the club direct.

I want what is best for the club I have supported for over 50 years --- why would I want to see the downfall of RM , especially if it meant our club went down with him ?

My relationship with the CEO is purely business ----- we talk when necessary regarding the Fan's Forum and any other relevant issues regarding SUFC. Steve Kavanagh is a very knowledgeable football suit who is employed by Ron Martin and as such should be a company man --- especially as RM pays his wages. I am not sure what agenda you are thinking about ---- he is an employee.

Thanks - very informative. I thought it might be helpful if you clarified your/the zones position in order to nullify certain allegations. By the way I love the zone.
