Spot on! We can't dismiss anyone over 30 as "past it" because a couple didn't work out.

Worth remembering that both Eastwood and Barnard were under 30 when signed. Freedman was 34 when he signed and he started brilliantly, scoring 3 in his first 4 games including a cracker on his debut.

Those three you mentioned were all disasters,Fred and Lee second spell!
So not a very good comparison on the club's signing .

I'm sure this Hunt chap is reasonable, but there's a lad down at the park who is genius at keepy-uppies, and would probably sign for, literally, a bag of peanuts. For God's sake Brown, when are you going to get those blinkers off and look beyond trained professional athletes with proven experience and quality in the higher leagues?!? It's almost like you aren't prepared to gamble with the club's future by employing tubby unknowns! Muppet.

Yeah true,

Come on Phil continue signing these on their last legs types whose recent scoring record is nothing short of comical.

He is making the point that they were classed as old players being brought in and werent even 30.

We arent going to sign anyone with a recent scoring record. We have no money.

His name is not Bilel by any chance? :winking:

That's precisely the point Chapperz is making. Barnard and Eastwood's legs had gone despite being under 30 when they re-signed for us. There's no absolute calculation you can put on any player as to when they won't be able to last the pace any longer, so to rule out signing someone just because they're 32 would be ridiculous. Look at Jamie Cureton, 38/39 last season and got 20 goals in all competitions.

I know his point, but we were the only mugs who signed all 3,never needed a crystal ball to tell they would all struggle, but hey those in control never look past their own nose for any gems.

They do, hence we signed Shaq/Pigott/Cassidy

All players we sign are a gamble, but when they dont work out either you still complain.

My point is ,no other club wanted to go near those 3 yet like the provobial lamb to slaughter we signed all 3,Hunt is searching for a mug club willing to give him a lengthy deal which I have no doubt this club will offer. His recent stats suggest he ain't worth the gamble and in fact this club should be running a mile from any involvement with Hunt taking into account how the amount of times these old stagers fail.

How much has been spent over the last 10 seasons on old crocks,it's mad.

Isaac Layne from Billericay?

They were all loaned,Pig did well no question,Cassidy was written in the stars he ain't scoring nothing and yep he scored nothing,Shaq was another blunder, why sign him for the entire season and continue selecting him when IMO he looked none yo bothered on the pitch.

Freedman had just had a great spell with Leeds before we signed him, he looked like a good signing at the time.

So was Assomblonga, our best signing in years.

Every transfer's a gamble, and if we were to take players on the basis of statistics we'd have never signed a host of the players who've gone on to be very astute purchases for us. Given our need to assemble an entire strike force this summer, I'd much rather we took a punt on two or three experienced players with a touch of class (providing they're within budget, of course), than five or six wet behind the ears youngsters with no foundation.

Petition to have mrsblue's username changed to Captain Hindsight as well please.

Hunt will probably be the highest earner with a 2 year deal in his pocket, not worth the outlay IMO .

The young forward at East Thurrock, giant step up I know but would be cheap as chips,so worth a go.

We're stepping up a level, we need experienced players to help to at least consolidate ourselves in L1. Players like Hunt who have been there and done it at a high level. To stick a youngster from East Thurrock in would be like starting the season with Jason Williams, it won't happen. A club manages to strike very (VERY!) lucky like we did with Eastwood first time round once in a blue moon, the chances of it happening are paper thin. By all means we should look to recruit the odd promising player from non-league and loan him out so we can watch his progress, but certainly not for the first team.

You're right we do need pace, a Mooney/Hunt/Pigott strikeforce with a quick loanee (or someone like Theo Robinson perhaps) would see us do very well in L1.

P.S. Just to also add that Sam Higgins at Thurrock has already trialled at Southend and failed to win a contract. And that was in L2.

But this club has been down that road so many times it's ridiculous .

Eastwood second time
Barnard second time
Freedman
Harris
Goater

Probably missed another 20 names but you get my point,I reckon these marquee signings are not for the club but a devious fiddle somewhere along the line.

Goater was in the team that won us promotion to the Championship. Even Freedman finished his first season with 5 goals in 16 games.

Barrett, 35 year old - helped us win promotion last season
Phillips, 28 year old "crock" - won POTY in 2nd season
Barker, 30 year old "crock" - won POTY in 1st season
Easton, 31 year old - was our captain
Sodje, 33 year old - another who helped us gain promotion to the Championship

What do you think of Timlin, 30 year old who has had long-term injuries, signing a new contract that could last 3 years?

Adam Barrett second time

just picking out the bad players to validate your point doesn't really work.

You missed Furlong :)

Eastwood & Harris drove us to the Playoffs. Goater got a League One winner's medal. You have to judge each player on his own merits. I'd take either Hunt or Davies personally and there's nothing to suggest than Hunt wouldn't be a great signing.
