I bet Bristol City fans said the same thing when Wilbraham signed for them last summer (no goals in last 29 games & 2 in last 48 appearances), what a disaster that was eh!

Hunt scored 2 goals in 3 appearances in the Championship when played up front. Selective statistics are the best!

P.S. Why not name a striker you'd like to see us sign?

spot on. Sometimes you have to Just ignore the stats and give them a chance. But obviously mrsblue knows better than us all, even though she rarely goes to games..

Hunt will probably be the highest earner with a 2 year deal in his pocket, not worth the outlay IMO .

The young forward at East Thurrock, giant step up I know but would be cheap as chips,so worth a go.

Sam Higgins!? Pretty sure he is like 25 and a bit top heavy. Maybe if we were in the Conference you could say he's worth a punt, but, League One? He's spent his career so far playing in the Ryman League (think he was at Chelmsford and/or Concord in Conference South for a bit actually). You'd rather we signed him than Noel Hunt?

Do you really believe that statement yourself? We are going into league one, not relegated to the conference. We can not afford to take a punt on a complete unknown (u dont even name him) with no league experience. The higher you go through the leagues the more experience you need in your team. Weve had the likes of Cassidy, Coulthirst, Woodrow, Loza recently who all have league experience yet struggled in league two. With only one striker signed up (Williams wont be first team) we need to fill the other two spare places with players who know what it takes to succeed in this league not someone who may take the whole season to even get near the first team (very much like ellis brown or issac layne)

Hahahaha! Deary me you don't half come out with some absolute twaddle.

Hahahaha :net: reeeeeel them in.

Surely can't be a serious comment.

I have watched Sam Higgins a few times. A good finisher but slow and lazy. Somehow he has the knack of being where a poacher is needed - but that's all. At 25 years old with his goal record, if he was that great he wouldn't be at East Thurrock.

If you mean Higgins , he's 24 , so not that young, and given they are not a full time team he may have a half decent day job, which he will have to give up, so not necessarily will be as "cheap as chips"

Also he has been scoring fairly well for a several years 40 , 22 , 13, 44 , but considering that's all with East Thurrock and in The Ryman prem, there must be something stopping him from progressing, its rare for half decent Ryman players to stay at the same club for long

This is a tricky situation; HUNT would do well possibly BUT with MOONEY signed already would signing HUNT make signing another striker harder as we will only play 2 at most up top?
Given the choice of PIG or HUNT I would rather sign PIG on a 2 year deal and then get HUNT on a deal until Christmas with extensions if/as warranted.

My boss, the Ipswich fan has just come in to say that Hunt, who is training with Ipswich to keep fitness levels up left the training ground early to quote "go off to Southend". Apparently also on their forum.

I'm convinced you're wiggy with a different name....

So, there are quite a number of people happy with signing a relatively old striker with the reason being that they can bring that experience to the team ..... and by dropping down a league, they may well be able to score a few times.

I'm not 100% convinced. Each player is different of course.

Harris - should have scored more. Eastwood - never really came good. Bradbury - hit by injury too often. Goater - marvellous.

Let's not forget that the defenders in Division 3 are not going to "roll over and play dead" because their opponent has higher league experience.

Anyway, I will be behind whoever pulls on the shirt and shouting encouragement.

Problem is, people are happy to slate the signing of Mooney or possibly Hunt and some even slated Wordsworths signing. Yet they are all arguably a step up on what we have / had. I loved Corr, but he wouldnt have been good enough for league 1, yet Mooney has played and scored at that level in recent years, Hunt has been a championship player regularly. I really dont know what people expect. I doubt we would have got any of these players if we were still league two. Id love these negative people to come on here and list players who they would have at the club. Bury signed Pope and Leon Clarke and people said we should be going for them. To be honest wouldnt want either and i would put money on Mooney and Hunt or Piggott to score more than either of those two.

I doubt there are many players we will sign who will come with guarantees.

Mooney has a half decent record, did well a couple of seasons back, Hunt did well for Reading at a higher level but not much since.

The fact of life is we have to take a chance on any player we sign.

We could end up with a Cureton, or we could end up with another Barnard. Time will tell.

Can we un-ban Mark Stewart to get his opinion on this potential signing?

Let it go....

(PS He is rubbish, and if this is what we are aiming at, ie signing freebies, it shows we havent got any money)

Way I see it too!

We have constantly signed old blokes looking for one last pay out who fail ultimately. As you say I also will support him from the stand.

Spot on! We can't dismiss anyone over 30 as "past it" because a couple didn't work out.

Worth remembering that both Eastwood and Barnard were under 30 when signed. Freedman was 34 when he signed and he started brilliantly, scoring 3 in his first 4 games including a cracker on his debut.

I'm sure this Hunt chap is reasonable, but there's a lad down at the park who is genius at keepy-uppies, and would probably sign for, literally, a bag of peanuts. For God's sake Brown, when are you going to get those blinkers off and look beyond trained professional athletes with proven experience and quality in the higher leagues?!? It's almost like you aren't prepared to gamble with the club's future by employing tubby unknowns! Muppet.
