Haha you are quality!

We are on a thread regarding the signing of a forward, many of you have drooled great signing,I have my doubts .The clue is in there somewhere.

Have you ever been pleased with a signing Southend has ever done.... Seriously getting over people who slag players before they arrive at the club.

That comment will be blown right out of the water if Hunt signs. He could easily go and earn far more money at Chicago Fire than he ever will with us.

Sorry but if you genuinely believe players from leagues like the Conference South are acceptable signings for the first team when we have just stepped up a level then I have to agree with the rest on this thread......

Fred was non league and became a legend, problem is if we never go down that route we will never unearth another.

We have gone down that route, we tried it with Layne.

We also signed Coker from non-league.

Prior to Brown we signed Clohessey/Hall etc from non league.

Classic non-response from you as per usual.

There will always be some doubts over a signing, there is no such thing as a guarantee.

You've given 5 "old crocked" forwards who failed in the last 10 seasons and I'm sure I could find 20+ forwards from the last 10 seasons who also failed.

"I knew Stan Collymore would come good even though he'd only scored 1 goal in 20 games for Palace at the time because he was young and hungry and pacy. I posted on ShrimperZone that he would be good and nobody believed me." Mrsblue, circa 1992.

Eastwood and Barnard first time,Bazza, the entire back 4,most of the mid,Robinson,to name just a few.

Bazza? You mean the slow, injury-prone striker that couldn't make it at a higher level (3 goals in 34 for Exeter)? Sounds like exactly the kind of signing you wouldn't have been happy about, but I guess you mean in hindsight as usual!

Hunt could be a great signing, he could be a bad one. But lets not pretend that signing young unproven players from the non-leagues is a safer option than signing proven players that have performed at a higher level. For every Eastwood there's another 20 failures but they never seem to be mentioned..

at the risk of going back to the main course of this thread, is Jason Williams actually quick?
it would make a difference if he is. if he is properly quick then we need Mooney plus two but if he's not, and/or not that good, we need Mooney plus 3.
I've only seen Williams very briefly and it wasn't really long enough to tell anything. Did well at Chelmsford, didn't hit the heights at Welling so a big call to say he's ready for a first team place in League One

Barry Corr and Gary Hooper are examples of how it can go. Corr didn't set the world alight for anyone else came here and had a pretty good goal scoring record with us. Hooper scored goals for everyone else but us.

Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't, that is a risk. We could sign someone with an exceptional scoring record and he may not fit how we are playing at the time and struggle to score.

Your constant arguments on this situation, Williams and 442 are getting boring and repetitive mrsblue, please stop ruining threads with your constant drivel.

We have and none have ever come close to being anwhere near as good as Eastwood. And that's the point, a player like Freddy might come along once for a club every few DECADES. The majority of signings like Eastwood are punts that hardly ever come off. And asking a player from the Conference South or lower to step up to L1 is way too big a step. Isaac Layne never even made a senior appearance for the club and that was before promotion.

FYI I have not even mentioned Williams or 442 whatsoever within this thread !

No Bazza as in Adam.

So, there are quite a number of people happy with signing a relatively old striker with the reason being that they can bring that experience to the team ..... and by dropping down a league, they may well be able to score a few times.

I'm not 100% convinced. Each player is different of course.

Harris - should have scored more. Eastwood - never really came good. Bradbury - hit by injury too often. Goater - marvellous.

Let's not forget that the defenders in Division 3 are not going to "roll over and play dead" because their opponent has higher league experience.

Anyway, I will be behind whoever pulls on the shirt and shouting encouragement.

I fear my words might be misinterpreted (that would be down to my poor use of language so entirely my fault).

For the record, I was happy when we signed Harris, happy when we signed Eastwood, happy when we signed Bradbury and happy when we signed Goater.

According to some Mr Hunt is signing for this club very soon and I will be shouting for him when he comes on the pitch.

Just got to work out quite what words to use ........ "come on you Hunt" doesn't quite do it ......... :omg:

My boss, the Ipswich fan has just come in to say that Hunt, who is training with Ipswich to keep fitness levels up left the training ground early to quote "go off to Southend". Apparently also on their forum.

How is he (Noel Hunt) posting when he is on a motorway?

Probably stuck in traffic due to an accident due to someone else being on their phone .....

Hash tag: That'showpeoplegetkilled

I think you're right. But weren't the club playing Spurs behind closed doors today (says he clutching at straws).
