He has done ok though..... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ants-cut-gas-electricity-did-leave-weeks.htmlBut Cambridge didn't offer Barney £2k per week (allegedly) did they?
Noel Hunt would be an excellent signing for a club like SUFC.and it would show you supporters that RM and PB were very serious about not just maintaining DIV1 status but challenging for promotion.
I also believe we will really never know with Barnard as in my opinion he was never really given a chance once he came back from loan at Stevenage,Barnard himself said he was fit and keen and didnt think he was given any sort of extended run to prove himself.

Its a limited recollection but I'll try
non league striker signings
Failed succeeded
Layne Eastwood
Welch Garner
Salter Hooper ?
FLood Tes Bramble
Dean Holness Rawle
Alex Burns
hardly convincing either way
Sorry, I'm pleased about the fact we're going for Hunt but I'm afraid League One is a lot tougher than it once was. Preston had Joe Garner and Jermaine Beckford and still had to make do with the playoffs. I think promotion is out of the question, let's nip that in the bud straight away.
If this was last year I'd 100% agree with you. If sides like Bristol City, MK Dons and Preston were still in L1 we'd have absolutely no chance of promotion. Zilch. Nada. But those three sides have left L1 and been replaced by significantly weaker teams IMHO, Blackpool will probably have another season of struggle as they're still run like a circus. Also Millwall don't look like they'll be anywhere near the quality of the likes of last seasons promoted teams. Wigan look the most likely to mount some kind of a challenge but even that's far from certain, their gates were poor in the Premier League so they won't get too many through the turnstiles in L1. None of these teams should hold any fear for us, and even the best team to miss out promotion last year Swindon have had a firesale this summer. You'd expect Sheffield United to be favourites but that's the only real stand-out team for me, and even they aren't a patch on Bristol City, MK Dons or Preston. There's nothing to be scared of in this league and I believe we've lucked out in terms of coming up at the right time. If we could sign Hunt, McLaughlin and :pig: and make a couple of other quality additions there's no reason why we can't be sniffing around the play-offs.
Barry Corr and Gary Hooper are examples of how it can go. Corr didn't set the world alight for anyone else came here and had a pretty good goal scoring record with us. Hooper scored goals for everyone else but us.
Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't, that is a risk. We could sign someone with an exceptional scoring record and he may not fit how we are playing at the time and struggle to score.
Your constant arguments on this situation, Williams and 442 are getting boring and repetitive mrsblue, please stop ruining threads with your constant drivel.
Hooper worked out.
We made a huge profit on him.
What happend to it .Do you know how much exactly we made? £175k transfer fee + ?% sell on fee to Celtic and then another percentage of the sell on fee from Celtic to Norwich? Must have been an absolute fortune.

I believe it was around £600k total when he joined Celtic. We may have made a little bit more when he joined Norwich but if we did then it won't have been much. Any percentage of that fee would have been tiny. Still £600k for a player signed on a free transfer is still very good business. I just wish he'd been able to force his way into the side while he was here.

If he had of played and scored more in our championship season we may have stayed up.
He was what, 18 in the Championship season? It was his first year as a Professional and I don't think it was fair to have any expectation that he'd come in and score the goals to keep us up (he'd have had to score a lot to outscore the three we were shipping at the back most games).
He scored some big goals that season though - not least the ones to beat Leeds and earn us a home draw against Manchester United.
The next season without eastwood was when we missed a trick in not playing him.
My friend who's a huge Ipswich fan reckons he's to good for League 1 and believes he's on around £5k-£7k a week.
If we get him I'll be very surprised, and happy!
