I watched 'In Bruges' last night. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. Described as a dark comedy. More like a dark tale, with the odd great comedy moment. A great film in my opinion, and I really enjoyed it. It's certainly different. It's about two hitmen who have to go to Belgium after a job goes wrong in London. It turns out they have guilt, morals and feelings, as the story unfolds. Gleeson is especially superb.

Brilliant film. I certainly do see it as a dark comedy. Martin McDonagh is a great writer / director.

Strange Darling - a brilliantly dark, twisted film that unravels out of sequence. Great cinematography by Giovanni Ribisi.

Smile 2 - great horror flick and maybe superior to the original Smile. Naomi Scott deserves awards, but the majors will ignore her powerful performance because of the genre.

Blitz - left me unmoved and a weak offering by director Steve McQueen. It seems as though he was hell bent of forcing his agenda of racism into a story it didn't fit and took the focus away from the actual narrative. Saoirse Ronan was, of course, good. Paul Weller is pretty decent in it.

IF - Ryan Reynolds. It's basically a film for kids and adults that are still kids at heart. Provided you don't get too sniffy about it, then it's very enjoyable, and, because I had a big kid streak, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Wicked - I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this in spite of 2 massive caveats
a) It's a musical.
b) It's 2h40m long, and didn't really slow down at all.

In this modern age of cinema, great to see a large scale production with proper sets and practical effects, instead of spamming the CGI.

This will probably sweep the board at the Oscars next year. Arianna Grande camps it up to about 11 and will become "Judy Garland" level gay icon for eternity.

'Pitfall' classic 1948 Noir. Savage satire on the 'American Dream' of the monotony of suburban life style clashing with the underworld. Raymond Burr pre Perry Mason as the villain, the wonderful Lizabeth Scott as the femme fatale, Dick Powell as the insurance man 'feeling like a wheel within a wheel within a wheel'.

After watching Scorsese's film 'Hugo' which referenced it, I decided to take a look at Melies' work including 'A Trip to the Moon' and ended up with a DVD of 15 of his films.

Watched Heretic last night. Hugh Grant obviously had fun unleashing the dark, nasty side. It starts off very talky, in a pretty clever way, coming across like a play adapted for the screen. Overall, enjoyable fun, even if the final act does become somewhat silly and fails to live up to its promise.

I also watched it. Thought provoking on religion. Watchable, and I rate it 7/10.
