Just got home after watching Eggers take on Nosferatu.

Bit torn by this one. Nosferatu has been something I've loved on screen since I saw the original when I was a teenager (no, I wasn't a teenager when it was first released), and i saw the remake soon after.

I also a big fan of Eggers. I think he is one of contemporary cinemas true visionaries.

His Nosferatu has a lot going for it. Lilly-Rose Depp's performance is excellent. The cinematography is gorgeous as is the production design.

However, the first half of the film has a narrative drive to it that is lost in a messy 2nd half (I blame Maher's early substitutions).

Some of the dialogue and performances from the likes of Willem Dafoe are hammed up, ruining the atmosphere of the film.

As good as Bill Skarsgard was, I felt the design of the title character was over done, losing a lot of what Nosferatu is.

Have you seen the Herzog version? I want to watch that one first.

Saw Daniel Craig in Queer earlier:Interesting film which obviously won't do anything in the Oscars.Let's hope the BAFTAS are more generous.

I saw 'The Outfit' 1973, again last night. Robert Duvall, Joe Don Baker and Karen Black. Stands the test of time. Not a great film, but a good film, and still enjoyable. 7/10, if you like robbery, American Mob films.
Robert Duvall heads the cast of this taut and explosive Mob revenge story, in which an ex-con takes on the Mafia to avenge the death of his brother.

Saw Sing,Sing yesterday at the Balmes. Not bad as prison movies go but still not a patch on The Green Mile, the Daddy of the genre ,in recent times ,IMO.

Thought the fact that Kneecap was shafted by the Oscars was hardly a suprise.Remember it as a very quirky film in Gaillic. Now I don't like hip -hop/rap at all but that didn't blind me to the merits of this film.Hope it gets some recognition at the Bafas.
