Films you've watched recently.

Working through a couple of box set DVDs of Nettlefold and Beaconsfield studio British films of the 40s and 50s. Mostly crime/film noir B films, low budget and certainly no classics but full of interest as a social document of the times and also the appearances of so many familiar British character actors in small parts.

What titles have you seen?
Talking Pictures Encore is great for GB B movies.

Tangled up in Blue..........You asked me a couple of questions a while back.

Woody Allen started his career at The Catskills (a great place for wonderful Jewish humour).
Woody's films are hit and miss.

Moving on to "The Fabelmans" it would have been great if it had been a rags to riches story (As per Alan Sugar).

Speilberg's films are also hit and miss "West Side Story" wasn't any good either.
Of course it lacked the fabulous Elmer Bernstein's music which contributed to the original film being a classic.

His remake had Spanish being spoken but no subtitles!

Oh by the way "All Quiet On The Western Front" has returned to some London cinemas.
Like most people, the first Woodty Allen fim I saw was Take the money and Run .(Incidentally you won't find many people who've ever seen him live on stage).

(As I said) can't agree about The Fablmans or WSS.Intersting you should mention Sugar .Found his autobiography dull, which even Speillberg's commercial films at their worst aren't'.Incidentally saw SS first film (the made for TV) Duel on it's short WE run and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Would agree fwiw that the's no basis of comparison between WA & SS (except they're both Jewish film directors).

Yes, these DVDs are issued by Renown, which is part of Talking Pictures. Have seen MEET MR CALLAGHAN, PARK PLAZA 605, THE DELAVINE AFFAIR and THE BLUE PARROT so far. All of them hugely enjoyable with loads of familiar faces.
