Films you've watched recently.

They sound great--Sid James pops up a lot in so many films ......Set in London...have you seen "Night And The City" (Richard Widmark)?
Sid James plays a very bad tempered copper in PARK PLAZA 605., which has bits by Michael Balfour, Richard Wattis, Anton Diffring, Terence Alexander and Richard Marner to name but a few. Tom Conway, George Sanders brother stars as Norman Conquest, as a PI.
Now, NIGHT AND THE CITY is different class, one of my favourites, directed by Jules Dassin, who was about to be blacklisted because of the reds under the beds hysteria in the USA. One of Widmark's best performances and that's saying something.

blues exile....Jules Dassin liked to film on location a lot. ---"Park Plaza 605"(I have found it for free on Youtube) has a very interesting cast..........I recently saw again the excellent D O A.

You may find some good films on Bing Video

I have purchased some out of copyright films on DVD on Ebay and they can be very cheap.

One of my favourite films is "Les Diabolique"
"Double Indemnity" of course takes some beating.

Silver screen this week is the Banshees of Inisherin. Fantastic acting. A film about 2 friends falling out in Ireland on a small island with the backdrop of the Irish civil war in the background. I won't go through the plot as it would spoil it.
My wife has an Irish name which apparently hails from County Mayo where the film was shot and we've often talked about going to see where they were from (Irish potato famine) but having seen the bleakness of the scenery in the film she's just glad they got out.
Well worth seeing.

About Time - The film is about a young man with the ability to time travel who tries to change his past in hopes of improving his future. The ability has been in every male in his family and kicks in when they reach 21. Features Donhnall Gleeson and Bill Nighy as his father. Written and directed by Richard Curtis. 8/10

Saw Till earlier .It's a powerful film.Frankly I'm amazed it hasn't picked up an Oscar nomination for best actress at least:Given that the Oscars had problems a few years back with the alleged under-represention of black performances in films this issue clearly won't be going away any time soon.Nor should it.

Thought the film was mostly shot in the Aran islands, which I''ve visited and recommend.

Boyz n the Hood. Never seen before, but what a film. Great cast, great music, superb acting by the leads Fishburne and Gooding Jnr.
Can’t believe you’ve not seen it before.

Great film. Up there with Do the right thing, New Jack City, High Learning, CB4, Fear of a black hat, Juice, House Party, and the legend that is Beat Street.

And Friday! I love House Party - had the soundtrack on repeat when I was younger!

Don’t know why I’ve never seen it before tbh

I have just seen "Murder In Eden" (1961).....It is worth seeing for the Leslie Caron look-a-like + the bubble car scenes.

The Caller - the original US/Puerto Rican time-travel/horror film which inspired the South Korean film The Call. The South Korean version was more fun, the American one though was still a decent watch. 5/10

Cam - interesting sci-fi/horror, let down by a few plotholes and a rubbish ending, but decent performances overall 5/10

Grown Ups - mediocre US comedy. A few laughs but it's no classic 4/10

I found this incredibly boring. Quirky for the sake of it.

This weekend I have most been watching: The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas - Which I believe is a kids film! Bloody hell, hard hitting and the ending left me speechless. 8/10

How To Lose Friends and Alienate People - to kill a wet boring bank holiday Monday. Not good, but Megan Fox & Kirsten Dunst look sexy! 5/10
It has a 12A certification

Cebera45....."The Boy In The Striped Pajamas" is truly amazing.
For those of you who haven't seen it is about a Jewish boy and a German boy during The Holocaust.

I have seen a number of films about the shocking subject but this short docu. is the most frightening......

I've (already) seen it

I saw "Park Plaza 605" (1953) a bit silly/funny (Sid James)

Have now finished that box set but found a real unexpected gem that I had never heard of. PRIVATE INFORMATION (1952》 is about local government corruption involving a council house estate built with dodgy materials, faulty drainage etc by cowboy builders and council officials getting backhanders. A tenant exposes this and a typhoid epidemic breaks out as a result. Very unusual for a British b film to explore such themes, all wrapped up in 65 minutes. All very middle class characters of course and some twee dialogue but still a minor masterpiece in my opinion.

blues exile...Thank you for the info (it is new to me).....I have just found it on Youtube (for free) and I will watch it later today.

There are loads of Quota quickies. for free on Youtube.
Yes, saw GIRL ON THE PIER the other day. Brighton location shots are interesting.
By the way, the quality of those Renown boxes is much superior to the YouTube versions and the subtitles are a big bonus if you are a bit hard of hearing as I am.
