England vs Pakistan Test Series

That was absolutely hilarious.

Think Cook owes Broad a pint after that, because if Broad hadn't have hit the keeper the other week and not broken his finger I don't think Asif would have tried that aggression.

Well played Cookie.

Now will people start to have a look at the captain's form? No hundred in over 12 months, yet you don't hear the whispers that you do about Cook.

Well done Cookie. And at a steady rate as well. Lucky he has done so well as Trott appears to be grinding to a halt. Out of their current 112 partnership, Cook has 85 of them to Trotts 23!

Interesting looking at Cook's recent scoring. I'm sure his original criticism was that he got a start and then failed to translate it into a big ton. Yet in his last 45 innings going back to India in 2008 there are six hundreds, two in the 90's and then only a single score between 60 and 90. Five times he's got out in the 50's and then all the others are under 40.

His average in that time is 44.3 which is still bordering on test class, but i'd say a test class opener now should really be nearer 50. 11 single figure scores out of 45 is not great.

For YB's benefit, Strauss has averaged 49.2 in that time. Though it drops to 38.9 (and one century) if you go from last summer's Ashes onwards.

Openers are always going to be prone to being dismissed for single figure scores. I'd actually say that an average of 45 for a test opener is pretty good. Cook's average is higher than at least one of the current openers for every other test nation.

The criticism of Cook is based upon the fact that most people don't bother watching/following away series and/or have memories like goldfishes. He scored 3 hundreds this winter, yet people want him dropped for the Ashes (I can see the argument for dropping him for the 4th test based on recent form, but your August form will be irrelevant in November), rather than his opening partner who hasn't scored a hundred for over 12 months. Where's the logic in that?

I don't particularly have an issue with Strauss' place in the test side* (although his form is worrying: not only does he average in the 20s this series, but he's also been reprieved a number of times through Pakistan's abysmal fielding), but there's been so much bollocks spouted about Cook recently. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Cook's shown he has the mental strength, so back him.

3rd time at least in last couple of weeks he has gone to a ball down legside!

It's normally considered unlucky to get out that way, but I think it's a slight technical flaw that he has which sees him overbalance as his head gets too far over. He'll need to work on it, and maybe just cut out playing at those balls, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about it.

Steve Harmison use to be the master of exploiting that weakness in batsmen.

Atherton has the second most number of ducks for a test cricketer for England behind Harmison, which backs Yorkie's theory.

Got a text from my mate asking if I wanted to go and see the 5th day on Sunday as it's 'almost guaranteed to go the distance now'. How things can change so suddenly!

Apparently it's going to rain all Sunday.

If it's dry though I imagine I'll pop along.
