England vs Pakistan Test Series

Is this going to continue for Pakistan do you think? 'Cause I may be wrong, but weren't Bangladesh booted from test cricket because they were so *****?

No that was Zimbabwe, Bangladesh are still a Test playing nation. Pakistan have been for over 50 years and bowling wise can compete with any nation. Unfortunately for them they have a dearth of batsmen currently. Having dispensed with Younus Khan & Mohammad Yousuf their batting is made up with promising but inexperienced youngsters. Yousuf has now been reinstated and has joined the tour and will probably play in the 3rd Test.

Let's not forget that Pakistan beat Australia only a few weeks ago and across two test matches they bowled the Aussies out every time (once for 88).

Good point, let's strip the Convicts of test status as well.

The Pakistan batting line-up is (at least now they've got Mo-Yo back) as bad as the Kiwi's. What is so disappointing about Pakistan is their fielding.

Mo-Yo... good one!

The fielding is nothing short of an embarrassment; they really have to sort that out sharpish.

I knew Zimbabwe were booted, but I thought that was 'cause they were so screwed politically.

IIRC it was some terrible fudge and they voluntarily withdrew from test cricket for a while or something. They were never the strongest side, but when they dropped all their best players a poor team became atrocious, much like their human rights record.

Fortunately things are on the up way up cricket wise - if not necessarily politically - the better players are returning to play for them, as evidenced by Grant Flower returning at the end of the season to coach them. The main difference between Zimbabwe and Pakistan is that Zimbabwe were always a fantastic fielding side. If they couldn't be the best batting or bowling, then they'd be the best at fielding was their mentality, whereas Pakistan's fielding is atrocious (although their bowling is world class) and has been for some time. Ajmal dropped 3 catches in 5 overs during the 20:20 World Cup. That takes some doing.

3rd test, England win the toss and decide to bat. England then go and put on 9 for the first wicket. Cook out, again. Like the guy but can we please have an opener that can score more than 20 runs?

Why are England batting?

Put the Pakistanis under pressure.

Skies are grey, the bowlers are fresh and the only way England are going to lose this is by being skittled.

personally I think we should stick with him, at least until Bell is back and fit.

Strauss made particular note of the bat-favourable Oval wicket in his interview, although at the time the sun was out...

Obviously not that favourable as Strauss is out for just 15.

Over 12 months since Strauss' last test century. The under pressure Cook has 3 in that time.

Skittled is looking likely at the moment!

Cook surely has had his last chance. The Aussies will have him for breakfast, although not too many obvious candidates and not much time to get someone else in. The obvious change would be Bell in at 3 and move Trott up. If we got Oz with an out of form Cook and an out of form KP, we are in trouble.

Disappointing show yesterday bar Broad and Prior. Can't say I'm too hopeful that today is going to bring many wickets unless the England bowling attack is something special.

I think we should of fielded on the toss, Jimmy A would of had a field day yesterday morning\lunchtime and it would of been us enjoying some good batting conditions. I know the Oval is a bat-first wicket, but the conditions were not right.

We need to be into their tail well before they reach 200 to have a chance of turning things around.
