Brexit negotiations thread

Firms have been moving from here to various parts of Europe since the EU was formed, and many of them with EU grants and cheap loans. Even if we end up staying in the EU firms will still be leaving.

There is a good documentary on Netflix about the Volkswagen emissions scandal. Basically in collusion with Mercedes and BMW they set up their own so called scientific testing facilities under a different name of course and quite deliberately lied their a***s off. Whenever someone started questioning them they threatened to move production to a different EU country.

Of course the boys in Brussels didn't do a thing just like when £billions go missing from EU funded projects nobody ever investigates or tightens up on the next project.

The only ones to take action was the US. Some of the VW hierarchy were jailed but not of course anyone at the very top.

Now the really good bit is the same people who claim Brexit will harm the environment will completely ignore this. The one size fits all excuse of "I agree it needs reforming, but we are better off being part of the reforms" is the answer to institutional corruption that has never and can never be reformed.

JCB don't fund the Tories out of the goodness of their hearts, Essentially it's buying the government.

The US/industrial/military complex and the banks have so much to thank Tony Blair for. That's why he gets so well rewarded for speeches and 2 days a month jobs.

They are all corrupt, some more than others. Some will even lie over WMD in order to kill thousands of innocent lives.

The beauty of being a mass membership party is that currently Labour are cash heavy on membership fees alone. It's been reported that one of the things holding the Tories back from breaking the current stalemate with a GE is that their usual large sum doners are reluctant to donate to a campaign if May is leader.

40% of the voting public voted for the hard left at the last election if that is what Labour are.

The £3 membership was Miliband's idea, I don't know if you see him as hard left too? That offer was for a limited period so the current membership of over half a million are paying the standard rate. Essentially membership has doubled and is about 5 times that of the Tories.

You can't say I don't read your posts! When I saw the article below, from Channel 4 on FB today, I remembered that you had made a claim about your party membership. Looks as if the Labour Party may be a little economical with the truth regarding your actual numbers. According to Channel 4, we'll have to wait for about 18 months to find the true figure for today. It remains to be seen whether those paying standard rate, paid it for a month, a few months, or the whole year.

TM still playing for time with her silly deal A and now B. The EU asked again this week what does TM want. Incredible that after all that time and meetings, she hasn't made it clear. Some suggesting that it's as if she's deliberately sabotaging Brexit, hoping privately for a 2nd referendum despite what she says in public. I think she could get the backstop changed if she was serious. Brexit lawyers said it can be changed despite what the EU said in the past. And now this..............
Theresa May could avoid taking Britain into the controversial Irish backstop if she changes her Brexit red-lines, the European Parliament is set to say.

A leaked draft of conclusions from a meeting of the body’s Brexit steering group seen by The Independent says tweaking the demands could see the UK “avoid deployment of the backstop”.
The intervention is the clearest signal yet from Brussels that it sees changes to the future UK-EU relationship as a way of neutralising the tricky issue. Chief negotiator Michel Barnier has said the EU would “immediately” respond to any changes in position by the UK.

But despite the hints from Brussels, the prime minister has refused to budge – including on Labour demands for adopting single market common standards and a customs union.
Talks with opposition MPs last week appeared in vain, with those attending Downing Street reporting that Ms May read from a script during the meetings and gave nothing away.

What is she up to?

the bit of my post that you highlighted was referencing the £3 membership which was to get people involved, it worked, that rate has since expired and membership is now at standard rate (with deductions for students, unwaged, OAPs).

the answer to your question is in the link:

'We put all this to Labour.

They told us “this is nonsense. No one has been a member for eighteen months without paying. The Party allows members a six-month window to update their payment information and pay off their arrears before their membership lapses, as do many membership organisations.

“When membership lapses after six months, they cease to be members. This isn’t new information.”
