Brexit negotiations thread

Errr yeah. I’m sure Corbyn refusing to meet with May will only increase his support with the general public.

And to think, Labourites have been bemoaning the fact that May hadn’t invited any of the other leaders into discussions. Yet when she does, Corbyn declines it.

A man who had previously met with the IRA & Hezbollah, but refuses to meet the PM to discuss Brexit.

You couldn’t make it up.
maybe he is refusing to meet with May because not only is she a terrorist sympathiser but she actually allows UK licenses to arm these terrorists.

Perfectly understandable that along with the other minor parties, Labour wants 'no deal' off the table before talking. When will May realise that her deal is dead and we have to start all over agian, without any of her foolish, self defeating red lines.

If they want No Deal off the table, then they shouldn't have voted for it at the start.

23rd June 2016 UK public votes to leave the EU.
29th March 2019 UK leaves the EU.16th January 2019 PM invites other MPs to be involved in the negotiations.

May offers talks. Corbyn says remove No Deal threat, then we talk. May says no. Within an hour, Hammond rings 330 businesspeople and promises to remove No Deal threat because May faces revolt in Cabinet.

So May won't rule out no deal but her Chancellor will and has.

Then Tory chairman Brandon Lewis rules out the Government backing a second referendum or a permanent customs unions.

What exactly does May want to talk about?

Cable made the same 'take no deal off the table then we talk' demand, but a few hours later seemingly met her anyway.
May has ruled out all the things Labour and LibDems want to rule in so unless she genuinely wants to rip up and start again she is better off investing her time talking to Tories and DUP as we know that they can collectively vote through whatever they want.

Edit. Seems the SNP have made the same No Deal demand before formal discussions would start.

Ohhh the irony.

As has every other British government going back decades and as will every new British government for decades to come.

So, to sum it up, no one (nowhere near a majority) wants May's deal. No one (nowhere near a majority) want no deal. There is no time nor inclination to discuss a new deal. It doesn't appear either side is willing to compromise sufficiently. March 29th is approaching at a rate of knots. What next? Let's hope we don't fall into groundhog day...........i.e. May turning up on Monday with a proposal which is undistinguishable from her defeated deal, which won't get anywhere. Labour call for another vote of confidence, which will be defeated. We deserve better than that...................don't we????

I would hope Mrs May would propose a series of elective votes in Parliament (unwhipped on either side) to find out if there is actually a majority for anything in Parliament. If not,as you suggest, any plan B that May comes up with is doomed to fail.

May and her collaborators can come up with any deal they like. If the EU says "non/nein" then what?

Simple, a no deal exit and we get on with it.

*waits for the..... 'starvation on the streets' ....... 'total collapse of the economy' ..... '4 to 5 million plus unemployed' ..... 'we're doomed Mr Mainwaring' ....... posts to start rolling in.

Is it something parliament could sort out it self to do? From what I said earlier I think the best chance for consensus could be around another vote. For that reason I can't see May giving a chance to promote it. I don't know whether Corbyn would welcome a free vote either, as it may force his hand on backing a second vote which really doesn't appear to interest him at all.

I've already got a bedroom full of canned food ready for the Brexit apocalypse.

maybe he is refusing to meet with May because not only is she a terrorist sympathiser but she actually allows UK licenses to arm these terrorists.

Or in other words, he just plainly doesn’t like her and is therefore refusing to cooperate?

Tell me, is that positive to the Brexit situation, or detrimental?

No deal is part and parcel of triggering Article 50. (Something that Corbyn actually criticised May for not doing sooner)

On top of that, it’s maybe our only bargaining chip to try and get the EU to budge. Whether May intends to utilise it is irrelevant. The EU have to believe that we’re willing to go that route.

You honestly believe May still thinks her current idea of a deal is anything other than dead?
