Brexit negotiations thread

No one seems to be talking about a no deal Brexit now, that just seems to have vanished off the table. Mays deal wont get through and my gut feeling is we will just end up remaining. They will never let us have a vote now or if they did it would only be remain or the crap deal. Cant help but think there has been some shrewd manoeuvring with this to get to this outcome.

On the contrary, the only opinions I hear these days are either in favour of remaining, or leaving with no deal. That includes both the general public & the politicians.

Like you say, I’d be amazed if they gave us that voting option though, despite it being the only clear options we’ve got.

Nah, it’s just that no deal isn’t a realistic option. At least not in the time frame. It would take 5-10 years to set up alternate systems, infrastructure etc and that’s assuming somebody competent was at DxEU rather than the Brexiteers Davis and Raab.

Instead of cheering May recklessly serving Article 50, Brexiteers should have been planning for this.

You haven’t been screwed by May, you’ve been screwed by Johnson, Davis, Fox, Farage etc.

Ultimately it’s May who has the final say. She’s the leader after all. If there is no back-up plan for a no-deal Brexit, then she has to be held responsible.

Just something different to think about. There is now a possibility that Article 50 may be extended to allow us to try and sort out the mess we well be in after next Tuesday's vote.. Don't know about the likliehood of a General Election but there are certainly European Elections on the 23 and 26th of May 2019. If we haven't left the EU by that time I presume we would be required to hold them????? Anyone any ideas?

We would want to hold them. Otherwise we wouldn't get our say in the European Parliament.

I genuinely believe we should leave the EU but I'm not sure its really possible, I don't think there was a clear enough majority to leave. Which may have helped to cause this impasse at the moment. I don't really like the way it has divided our nation either, and I do feel that leave and remain both voted with the country's best interests at heart. I really don't know what the next option will be but I think we will end up remaining.

Personally I'm a bit fed up with being used as a "bargaining chip."

Yes, you need a real strong leader to get a good deal. You need one more than us.

Still there will be lots of work for you if they send you back. We win the repatriation war by 3 to 1. Although personally I think we should start with those that have committed crime, or never had a job. Something the majority of remainers support as well.

we don't need to leave the EU to do that, there are many restrictions on immigration from the EU that successive governments have chosen not to use. Obviously for the last 8 years the person with a large influence on immigration policy has been Theresa May as Home Secretary then PM. Each year she would say she was going to bring immigration down to the tens of thousands but fail to do that and use none of the legitimate restrictions that were readily available. 'Go Home' vans and declaring a 'hostile environment' doesn't restrict immigration it just creates suspicion and bad feeling.

Another day another whinge about May. It could be far worse, we could have Labour in power. We all know what they did last time.

Maybe start a thread that is for unquestionable praise for Theresa May if that fits your sensibilities.

The rest of us can discuss the reality of a government creating history as the first to be found in contempt of Parliament, losing three votes in the House in quick succession and is about to lose a vote on a policy the have dedicated over two years cultivating.

Genuine question - what do you think the use of a politics section of this forum if you object to criticism of a PM who would usually be expected to resign when policy can't get through Parliament? What is the point of the politics section?

Tangled said he was fed up being used as a "bargaining chip." because like all remainers its all about themselves, so that's what we were discussing.

You have do what you always do and jumped at the chance to rant about May. Yes we all know strong women annoy the left. That's why you chose Dianne Abbott. Don't forget I've been a union member since before you ever voted and I have witnessed the truth over many years.

Nearly everyone has now started to realise why May was chosen and anger is growing at a very fast pace even amongst people who voted Labour at the last GE. Corbyn sitting on the fence like a EUnuch, denying his core principles and proving what a fraud he really is will certainly not help Tangled.

You think May is a strong woman?

She stumped up £1 billion of unbudgeted money in order to get the DUP to back policy they always back only for them to vote against the biggies - the finance bill and various Brexit votes.

She spent two years negotiating with her own party, saw many Cabinet resignations, then presented a Brexit deal that leaves the EU in charge of what happens to the UK.

In what way is Theresa May a strong woman?

I don't vote tory so why would I care about TM, she's your obsession.

The moment a remainer was put up as the fall girl some of us knew what was coming. The needless and manufactured GE convinced a few more and now we have project "Its just not possible" to end any doubt.

All this nonsense has encouraged the democracy deniers to emerge from under their rocks. I notice the zones "peoples vote" has gone a bit quiet. Even with people like me who didn't vote its not what you were hoping.....Is it?

Still going to black up and try and stop the Brexit march on Sunday?

You didn't vote in the EU Referendum?

Paul Nuttall and UKIP Scottish leader and MEP David Coburn have also quit the party after Suzanne Evans and Nigel Farage already quit this week. All have quit due to the current leader's connections to 'Tommy Robinson'.

All adds to the bizarreness that is Brexit - just at the time when UKIP could potentially have a new lease of life they find a way not to capitalise on the collapse of Brexit.

I see the former cabinet minister Priti Patel wants to starve Ireland into dropping the backstop.

We tried that once before and it didn't end well.

Farage will start a new party, which will appeal to those on the right-wing spectrum, who fall between centre & extreme.

This could be a good play for him. As long as it doesn’t split the ‘right’ vote completely, he’ll be able to garner a fair bit of support, especially in the wake of the Brexit shambles.

I actually met with my local MP (Vicky Ford) after she invited me to discuss Brexit with her after a tweet of mine replying to her picked up a big response and a lot of likes. It was very interesting and quite an insight, we didn't agree completely but I was impressed by her. Some of my biggest fears were less of a worry after our conversation.
