If guilty he should be handed a sentence that fits.

I don't buy into this he is a footballer etc he should get a different sentence. If guilty he should get what's coming. End of.

Looking at sentencing guidelines, this is quite a minor offence if found (or if he pleads) guilty - the scale of the offence and his culpability means it could be a community order rather than incarceration.

Naps - haven't seen the sentencing guidelines, but isn't 'conspiracy' to do something (assuming the act was proven to have been carried out) more culpable than if the act was carried out by an individual?

I thought this was a spoof.

There's a lot of comments so I'll just assume what everyone else has said, and say what has probably already been said.

If he is proven guilty and handed his sentence, surely the club would be within the rights to terminate his contract? Surely? I hope not, he's quite the lintch pin. But it's so infuriating, so soon after the club committed to him...

Its also pretty serious so warrants it.

Cant just brush bad news under the carpet because we dont like it.

If he is found guilty of this and he deserves whatever sentence he gets, he shouldn't get any leniency just because he has now found a club willing to give him a chance.

Until then should carry on as normal, innocent until proven innocent and all that.

I agree that if found guilty then he deserves whatever sentence he receives. He does though seem to be turning his life around and given that the crime took place nearly 2 years ago it is difficult to see what good a custodial sentence would achieve in terms of his rehabilitation, and ultimately the taxpayer. Some form of compensation to the victim and community service/fine would seem the most appropriate course of action to me.

I am not saying this just because he is a Southend player and would say the same about any young person who has subsequently started building a career for themselves.

Love the way Nile ranger is innocent until proved guilty but Adan King is guilty even after proved innocent.

Mmm he has pleaded not guilty, and it's gone this far...... they must have a fair bit of evidence to appear at the magistrates.... if he is found guilty after pleading not....won't help him.

If it's what I think it is then it involves calling usually a elderly person on their landline pretending to be from a London based police station. They then claim they have in custody a male with a cloned bank card and the "victim" is to phone their bank immediately to get their cards cancelled. Of course the panicked elderly person does this straight away not knowing that the fraudsters are still on the line (they haven't hung up) They then pretend to be the persons bank and proceed to take bank details including pin number. In many cases they send a legit mini cab firm around to collect the victims card and proceed to clear out the account. There are other variations to this but the one I have described is typical.
Suffice to say, if he is guilty, I hope he rots, if Southend United employ him after a guilty verdict - then I'm finished with supporting them.
If he is innocent (and I hope he is) then above changes obviously.

That's a fairly decent amount of information there about how to defraud the elderly... where were you in Feb 15 and how long have you known Nile Ranger?

:winking:

How the hell has it taken 22 months to get to court? Has the fact that he has now got 'back on his feet' got anything to do with this? What actually is the crime; 'Conspiracy' means to plan something, therefore not actually doing the said crime?

I would love to think he had nothing to do with this, but I have a bad feeling...

No to all of that but good effort anyway.

Even if he is found guilty, I'm willing to back him.

We all knew he had a lot of baggage when we signed him, so this isn't a massive surprise. As long as he doesn't get in trouble whilst playing for Southend (which he hasn't so far), I'll continue to back him. I honestly believe he is a reformed character.

So as long as it's someone else's grandmother he's cleaned out, that's fine - UP THE BLUES!
