Post-Match Thread and Ratings York City 3-0 Southend United

The players are always given instructions to 'not lose' rather than go for it or take any level of risk. Hardly inspires confidence in the dressing room and it shows on the pitch.

What do we actually do in training? Clearly don't prep on set pieces after being undone three times, our final third play suggests we don't ever practice attacking phase properly, our flaky defence clearly not learning anything either. Three coaches on the books and we can't get half a tune out of our team.

Take off two of the best players this season in Pepple and Morton, two that could actually have the ability to play a part in a promotion campaign. Replace them with two players in shocking form. WTF is going on

Result no surprise but to concede 3 goals in the way we did was extremely disappointing.Overall no real threat we are very average a hell of work needs to be done to bring in better players otherwise we will languish in this league

Rubbish yet again.

Kev was great at selecting a side when he only had 13 to pick from. Now he has nearly 20 I don't think he has a clue. The maxim should be only sign a new player if they improve the team. What's the point of Kendall's signing if he's not going to start?

What we need is a brick of a centre half -Crowther (who I had high hopes for) is far too weak for this league.

We also need a captain who will lead on the pitch.- Ralph will never captain us out of this league.

Midfield well they are all a much of a muchness - where is the bite? - all nice tappy tappy players. Where's the bust a gut to get in the box? Where's the pace? Where's the aggression?

The players are probably as hacked off as we are - chop and change every week but never any improvement, but as many others say the likes of Bridge, Husin, get picked every week.

At the moment this is as bad as it's ever been -clueless. Southend Nil.

How many times are we going to read comments of “tactically set up all wrong”. Surely that alarm bells about the management team if they are forever setting up wrong.

The substitutions have always been questionable under Maher’s tenure. He more often than not, leave it too late or makes questionable subs.

6 points in the next 2 games or he’s gone should be the stance by COSU. Unfortunately in some people’s attitudes Maher could kill their dog and they would still find a positive in it.

It seems from the fans point of view all the get rid of Ron, be happy to just have a club, mid table is fine for a year or two, build sustainably polishing severely malnourished youngsters…well we didn’t mean it. Welcome to joys of football club ownership COSU…

I completely get what you are saying. Of course, there's an element of wanting/expecting more.

However, what this team doesn't have is the drive, determination and dare I say spirit of the team that didn't know if there was going to be a club.

Team Spirit has evaporated. As a fanbase, we condone GSM getting booked all the time for mouthing off because he scored a few goals first part of the season ( and incidentally, done **** all since)

We let Maher off being the most booked manager in the league because he guided us through the toughest time. Thing is, we are proper **** now. I see zero improvement week on week. Do you see anything in the games that makes you think, oh, they worked on that all week?

A manager with his hands in his pockets, moaning at refs doesn't scream leader to me.

Of course I'm delighted we still have a club. Is this better than not having one? 100%

However, I feel zero connection to this team and staff.

I feel like Maher lucked into Bridge when he was white hot, and the same this early part of the season with GSM.

No One questions why a right wing back who can't defend and can't keep his mouth shut is our top scorer.

What are they doing week on week in training because we don't look like improving even by tiny amounts week on week.

I said this last week. I don't expect to win every week. I don't even expect to win most weeks. But I do not understand what Southend United is anymore. What is our style? What's our defining characteristic?

Neil Harris and Adam Barrett are looking for something to do....

That was awful, we were not even competitive. Anyone but Maher and they would be gone by now. We have to beat Ebbsfleet.

Crowther was woeful...and as much as I like Bridge he has been abysmal this season. We are looking like a team that will finish 18th!

Changes required all over the pitch. We have only won 6 games in the league all season!

500 mile round trip for 627 travelling shrimpers and that is angry as I’ve been this season. Don’t get me wrong York looked very good and well drilled but the manner of the defeat a concern. Players didn’t look interested at times and to concede three goals from corners almost identical was embarrassing. We played deep from the start and rarely got forward. Miley was dreadful as was Bridge yet both stayed on the pitch. At 2-0 Walker stays on Bim off again, yet Kendall doesn’t come in until 3-0 down. Ive been a huge fan of Maher but that showing today was unacceptable. His refusal to try something different and give players a chance off the bench is puzzling. Anything than wins against Ebbsfleet and Braintree and Kev could be in trouble. 6 wins from 23 with this squad that did so well last season is troubling. The goals were the other end but looked like Collin had a nightmare for the 2nd and 3rd although those in front of him did little to help.

We play shocking footbsll, our manager plays his favourites no matter how bad they play. We can’t score and can’t defend set pieces which are 2 of the most important things in football. This fan base seem to just accept poor performances. When does the manager’s position start being questioned probably.

I’d also like to know WHO is signing the players.

Surely if you bring in a striker you want to play them? Or are we saying he isn’t better than what we already have?

Look at the likes of effiong (who I don’t rate) Woking sign him and immediately he STARTS their next two games. Granted we took their striker, just to give cameos from the bench it seems

York City may not be a Wrexham, Notts County or Chesterfield but there did look a division between the two sides. We denied them for the first forty-five but even at half-time there did seem an inevitability about it. If there was going to be a goal you sensed that it would be the home side who scored it. That certainly was a devastating spell and with that the emphasis shifts. Is it more worrying to concede three goals from set pieces than not being able to find the net ourselves? I was quite impressed with Kendall's performance even though he didn't manage to get us a consolation and I also appreciated Bonne's cameo as well. Wouldn't him and Pepple been a better starting pair? Is that being unfair as Walker who worked his socks off to not much avail.
In the end, I think you have to put your hands up and accept that they had far too much to offer, on the pitch and from the bench, than our present squad could deal with. Let's all enjoy Christmas and move on, quickly, to our next game.
