Post-Match Thread and Ratings York City 3-0 Southend United

This is becoming really depressing. I have seen the Shrimpers for over sixty years and this is one of the worst if not the very worst squad the club have ever had. Investment to improve the squad is desperately needed. If COSU think sustainability with limited funds for players will get us out of this division then they are living in dreamland.

Awful.

Yes, York are a better team than us. No, that doesn’t justify such a sloppy performance, devoid of any attacking threat and a 3-0 defeat.

People will point to the 3 defensive mistakes from corners, but it wasn’t just that. We let York in far too easily multiple times in the first half. Sinclair should have had at least 2, we deserved to be losing at half time.

The defending was awful all game, not just from corners. Multiple times in each half, a pass out from the back went straight to an attacking York player.

Substitutions bizarre and wrong, again.

Oh dear, oh dear
I still say that Maher does not know his best team nor does he play his best team. He tries to play his best players which are not always his best team.
All goal coming from set pieces - we have to learn from it.
Prior to the game said I would be happy with a draw and thought from the first half we may well get it.
I am at a loss as what to say.

Safe travels home all that went today

Absolutely 100% spot on

Nothing has changed….
We are a mid table team. A very average midfield with little strength, athleticism or creativity. Forwards starved of any decent service.

We continue to not score enough and the difference with last year is we now let too many in, whilst overall the league has got stronger (yes even if there isn’t a Wrexham the top 10 are stronger) and we haven’t. York struggled last year, they have brought a number in, spent £££, and have quality on the pitch and on the bench.

There will be a few Maher out statements but if we don’t invest in the playing side significantly nothing will change whoever is in charge. And if you don’t think it could get worse it could…

Kendall is one of those we missed out on due to embargoes- finally we have him and he looks a step in the right direction. Kev deserves a couple of transfer windows with competitive £££ to bring in first choice targets- not 7th and 8th…

COSU do have a decision to make, but it is more about can finally the playing side be invested in effectively now/Jan, or will it have to wait primarily for the summer. There is no longer a cheap way out of this league - those days are gone…regrettably

It seems from the fans point of view all the get rid of Ron, be happy to just have a club, mid table is fine for a year or two, build sustainably polishing severely malnourished youngsters…well we didn’t mean it. Welcome to joys of football club ownership COSU…

Roll on Boxing Day, when the biggest home crowd of the season will see either:

Ebbsfleet score early and we batter them for 80 odd minutes and we lose 1 nil.

Or

We batter them for 80 odd minutes, they score right at the end and we lose 1 nil.

But it’s OK cos the burgers will be nicer

Bet there still won’t be hand soap in the South East corner toilets 😉

Another one on Kev … I’ve defended Kev as much as I possibly can but that was horrendous.

The subs just topped it off for me we go a goal down and takes off the only player that has the ability to create something from nothing in Pepple when Walker was the one that needed changing. Then took Morton off for Husin (waste of a sub) and the cherry on top was changing Crowther (who was dreadful but we were 2-0 down).

Set up awfully and York didn’t get out of first gear all game and were still head and shoulders above us.
