Family member got £20k life savings in a savings account with The Halifax. Got notified of the yearly interest on it, a massive £2.1p!!.
I suggested closing the account, & buying Premium Bonds. My 'other half' got £5k's worth just under 2 years ago, & so far has won £225 from them!.
Certainly can't see the point of keeping The Halifax a/c open, what's the incentive?.

Parents that bring toddlers to a football match, but not to the Family Stand. The guy behind had one of the two toddlers on his lap all game. Obviously I got kicked to bits the whole game, as there's not much room in the East Stand. Also, they are the old wooden seats with the back bare. The toddlers got restless about the 20 minutes in. I was kicked in the middle of my back probably 80 times during the game. It was so hard to watch the game, and certainly not enjoyable. I made the decision to suffer it for one game as they may only be there for one game. There's usually other people sitting there. But yes, I will be politely saying something if they turn up again. All they had to do was buy tickets for the family stand, they have empty seats there, so they can move where they want. And the kids have more freedom in there. There was no consideration.
In fairness the family stand has appalling views.

Shawbrooke notice account pays 1.08%. Not great but better.

The toddlers were only briefly interested in the football. They were toddlers. They can't help it. The parents were trying to control them when they got restless. It's never going to work having toddlers in what is basically an over 10 stand, mainly adults. I had a nice jacket on. I only realised yesterday it now needs dry cleaning, when a friend asked what are all those marks on the back of your jacket, lol. So no, kicked in the back about 80 times, spoiling my enjoyment, and jacket needs dry cleaning, they can go in the poorer view family stand.

I can vouch for that. Took my 2 sons to their 1st game, which was first home match of season 92-93 under Colin Murphy v Peterborough. Shocking game, we lost 1-0 ( i think! ). By half time they were totally bored ( they were 8 & 6 at the time ). Spent the 2nd half counting the number of fans wearing blue, red, white tops etc FFS!.

Had most of my savings in premium bonds for around four years now. Average 1.4% p.a. Gotta to have a lot of skin in the game imo. Perhaps some maths expert would like to comment. People who have a grand or two seem to gain little, percentage wise, those maxed out at 50k seem to do ok.

So I understand there are many types of investments but for me it’s like buying “x” amount of lottery tickets per month knowing you will get 100% of the ticket price back regardless.

I’m not a maths expert but here’s one https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/premium-bonds-calculator/#result

Apparently the Halifax rate is 0.01%!. Why bother?.
Pretty much going to lose money in any savings account, when inflation is as high as it is. Shocking as the banks will no doubt be making a much higher ROI back on your relatives 20k and are only prepared to offer 0.01% back for the pleasure. It's taking advantage of people who either don't want to invest or don't find new accounts, similar to when insurers send you a renewal that is far higher than the price you had last year, praying on customer laziness. With sky-rocketing prices I am confident that many customers will be far more savvy.

Sitting in the Holiday Inn Basildon waiting for my HGV medical. The only thing worse than having to pay for the pleasure is another bloke singing along to the truely awful background music.

A least the coffee is free.
