Getting knocked back from applying for a job even before I put my CV in. That made me feel fantastic.:sad:

I'll see you job knock back and raise you being given a risk of redundancy letter. Hard to take really as I had a really good end of year review. Doesn't mean I am being made redundant, but wither me or another chap will be. Just hope my skills matrix and year end review were better than his

Jeez, not good mate.

If I am chosen, then they will look to place me in another IT role within the company before redundancy. If there's nothing that suits my skills or I fancy, I think redundancy is a months pay per year of service and I have been there 10 years, so a few quid. I am mulling over just taking the redundancy, but getting another job after is a big risk

It sure is, especially with Brexit on the horizon and noone knows how that's going to turn out. I've never really worked outside of the railway and if it happened to me I'd be totally lost.

It's not as big a risk as you think. With a redundancy pay off like that you'll be able to go about a years without working should you need to.

That's an option and I do have quite a few ex co-workers as contacts on Linkedin etc. I reckon I could tap one up to give me a job.

Not sure the missus will be too keen tho, she wouldn't be happy with me sitting about, though she would happily spend the redundancy money

I wear an ebel which was an engagement present from my wife. I made the mistake of getting the battery changed at a local jewellers last time. When I got it back I didn't wear it for some time, but when I eventually did I found the crown didn't turn smoothly.

I took it to a different jewellers who sent it to ebel to have a look at. It turns out that the crown in the watch wasn't the right one for the model. There's no way that would have happened in the manufacturing process, especially as it was fine before the battery change.

Since the crown goes right into the middle of the mechanism, to take out the crown and replace it with the correct one meant taking the entire watch apart. The quote for the job? £700, which included a £200 service. I asked what the service included. The reply was taking the watch apart and cleaning it. I then pointed out that they were doing that as part of the repair! In the end they agreed to not charge for the service. I still had to pay £500 for the repair. That taught me a valuable lesson. Get it done properly.

As an aside, there is now another problem with the watch, which I'm sure is a hangover from the original repair, but I can't prove it. The watch is a chronograph and the stopwatch hour hand does't turn, until I actually stop the stopwatch, at which time, if the stopwatch has been going for over an hour, it just moves randomly! I then have to manually wind it back into place. The reason I can't be sure it was caused during the original repair is because I didn't use the stopwatch for an hour for years after the repair! I've decided not to get it repaired until it needs a new battery. But I will ensure I take it to the right people regardless of cost...

Cheers LB, I feel a bit better now.

That's a better than normal package. Most companies give a weeks basic for every year your under 40, and 1 1/2 weeks for each year over 40.
Or they can go by the Government guidelines which is a max of around £450 per week.
I was made redundant 5 years ago, after 18 years employment with my company. Had they paid me by what I was earning, I would have walked away with £18-19k.
But they went by the Government figure, as is their right to do so if desired, and I received £10.4 k.
Not to be sniffed at by any means, but as it took me 6 months before securing a full time job again, more than half of that had gone by then with usual monthly outgoings. The rest still paid for a holiday to Florida though!.

I'd hate to think it would take 6 months to get a new job, and one they would need to match my current salary. I have found out they pay 2 weeks pay per year worked, for which I'd still very a decent payout but if it did take 6 months all the money would be gone. I'd like to think I have enough contacts to get a new job within a month or so but you never know

Did'nt help matters that I was made redundant at the end of Dec, and the job market dos'nt really start getting going again till around March ( did back then). Interview process from initial application, 2 interviews etc took over a month!.

Some mother****er has dumped a load of building material behind my garden fence which has brought the fence down. It's in a small gap between our rear fence and the neighbours, but looking at the land registry, it's my property.

*****.

****as, suppose that's makes you responsible for the clean-up?
I live near Gusted Hall in Hawkwell & people are always fly tipping in an otherwise lovely peaceful area cos they can't be f*ck'n bothered to pay for a skip or go to the tip, better to push it off the back of a lorry eh?

Some tool dumped an industrial sized cistern packed full of broken glass & ceramic tiles down our lane last week, I'd like to wring their fat chavvy necks.
They don't realise, or more likely care that someone has to live with their selfish bastadness.
Hope you get it sorted with minimal hassle.

Cheers, yeah bound to be mine to sort out. I'd love to go round and shout at the neighbours, but I can't prove anything.

The woman sitting next to me on the tube tonight. She had the worst BO I've ever smelt. Thankfully she got off. The problem was the smell didn't, and I realised it was actually the fat bloke the other side of her.
