I was walking the dog along a path beside an industrial unit, about 4pm today, ahead was a skinny man and a fat (size20+) woman, both dressed head to toe in "sports" clothing (probably from a major national discount retailer notorious for flouting working regulations). As they passed a window and watched those inside the man said "workers, losers more like" to chuckles from his "lady".
What sort of society do these two LOSERS not understand?

Sorry, am I missing something? Who were they aiming their criticism at?

http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20161109-a-sunday-ritual-for-300000-women

The article itself is fairly accurate describing a typical Sunday in HK for maids. What it fails to cover is that there is ZERO protection for maids in HK. Legally they are supposed to get a 24 hour consecutive holiday one day per week, plus holiday allowance (7 days per year!) plus public holidays, plus room of their own to sleep. In addition the employer pays a minimum of £400 per month and either a £100 food allowance or must feed them. For most this is how life is and though it seems odd by western standards a lot of the money earned is sent back home. The employer is also bound to pay for a return flight home once every 2 years. Many maids save up their 7 days and have 2 weeks at home.

For a large minority, especially with Chinese employers, the reality is different and there is nowhere these girls can turn with any teeth. Stories rarely make the press but when they do they are sensational. A girl allegedly fell to her death a few weeks ago cleaning outside windows in a high rise, but suspicions are otherwise. I hear so many stories of some working 16 hours or more per day with little, if any, time off. They're also sometimes sleeping anywhere with zero privacy and I've witnessed that for myself when looking around at properties. In one a space under the stairs (no door) was the "maid quarters".

Of course the maids themselves aren't squeaky clean. Theft and deceit, earning side money with their bodies etc but that's life I guess. The sad reality is any maid complaining fears immigration ripping up their visa because for every maid working in HK there's another 2 in a queue to come in.

As for me I'm powerless (And I guess weak). If I complain I am likely not to have my work visa revoked. My maid has one of the easiest jobs in HK btw. 5 days per week and just me and 2 cats. If I'm out with work her life is even easier. I should also say there are many employers that reward their maids handsomely. On the flip side of that I've seen an ignorant cow of a woman screaming abuse at her maid who had shopping, a buggy, two kids in tow while the woman had nothing.

Posters that watch a programme they say they hate and year in year out watched said provgramme and post the same *****,we all know how hi-brow you are so why not read a book or bake a cake when your better half is losing herself in pointless tv,just a thought.

So booking as train from MK to Euston in the morning is more expensive than travelling from St. Pancras to Paris. :stunned:

#mkout #myfaultprobably
Wicxkford to Birmingham is more expensive than Wickford to Birmingham when booking in advance. If only I knew someone to complain to .....

The 'lady' on the train that has just handed her two overweight children a family bar of chocolate each and a fizzy drink.

She is swearing under her breath about their behaviour whilst glued to a phone.

in fairness, if my kids had put glue on my phone resulting in it being stuck to my face I would probably be swearing about their behaviour

Don't look at me! I've now booked an hotel overnight on he Sunday near St. Pancras which is actually cheaper than travelling down on monday morning.

Whilst we are moaning about trains my whole experience of going from Oxford to Birmingham was horrific! 40 minute delay on my train to Birmingham. What I didn't realise that not only the motorbike show (which I attended) was on but also a form of comic con. So I was stuck on a train full of ****ing weirdos dressed like complete ***** waving light sabers about. I wouldn't mind if they had been quiet but they were anything but!
