Question What are you reading?

Have now finished the Steig Larsson "Girl With/Who" trilogy - anyone else read 'em - If so what did you think?
Personally really enjoyed them all & have seen the Swedish Version of "Dragon Tattoo".

I really enjoyed the books. I thought the first was a bit hard going because of the amount of characters, but you got used to them it became easier.

I didn't enjoy the Swedish films if I'm honest, but Hollywood done a reasonable job on the remake, even if I do have one issue with it that I can't mention in case you havn't seen it.

Currently reading The Twelve, second in the trilogy & shaping up to be just as good as the first.

Just got my mitts on some books I left back home. I do love creative writing dissertations... I get to read awesome books and claim research...

Wrong thread I know, but really enjoyed the first (Swedish) film, the second was so bad I have no intention of seeing the third.

Did the Swedes make a second and third film? I didn't know that.

It was originally going to be a Swedish TV series in 6 parts (all 3 books), but the director turned them into cinema releases as I believe. Definitely out there, The Girl Who Kicked a Hornet's Nest is supposely a somewhat return to form, but I can't face it after the second film.

I couldn't even finish the first!

Just started reading Pete Townshend's 'Who I Am.' It's well written, with great evocation of those post-war years and the musical influences in Pete's family. The difficult childhood stuff with Pete's mentally ill grand-mother is referred to early on - more on this and I suspect the influences for 'Tommy' later. I know I'm going to really enjoy this having been a fan for most of my life. Can't help thinking about H and pretty sure he'd have had this on his Kindle by now.

Ian Rankin's Constantine graphic novel - 8/10
Jeffery Deaver -a Kathryn Dance novel - 7/10, nice twists but nowhere near as good as the Rhyme books
Mark Watson- Eleven - 6/10 - OK, expected better, but an easy read

Now reading a Harlan Coben which is always good, Myron Bolitar is an inspired creation.

Just finished the Karla trilogy by Le Carre with Smiley's People the best of the three easily.
Now on to Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.

Shantaram was a good read. If the book is all true, the guy has lead some life. This was going to be made into a film a while ago, don't know if that's still going ahead, but how well it will translate I don't know.

Casino Royale - Ian Fleming

Decided to have a go through the Bond series.

Same here, read Casino Royale and Live and Let Die, now 3 quarters through Moonraker.

Surprised how little the books have in common with the films. They take the characters but the plots are miles away. Moonraker has nothing to do with the film whatsoever, its based in Kent !

Ian Rankin's Constantine graphic novel - 8/10

Did you know Ian Rankin was a Jackie Leven fan?

"Standing in Another Man's Grave – the book is dedicated to the late Scottish singer Jackie Leven; the title is Rebus's mishearing of Leven's line "another man's rain"

Can't say I'm suprised about the "mishearing" of rain for grave. That's what it sounds like most of the time to me.

Christopher Isherwood's Mr Norris Changes Trains.Gives a much better account of 1930's Berlin than Goodbye to Berlin, which of course, introduced Sally Bowles to the world.

Next in my in-tray.
Mendi Hasan and James Macintyre:Ed (The Milibands and the making of a Labour Leader). An unauthorised biography. The first published biography of Ed Miliband but I'd wager it won't be the last.Supposed to be an interesting read.

been hearing very good things about The Passage, which apparently is the first part of a trilogy and the film rights have already been bought by Ridley Scott. The missus has started reading it and is enjoying it, and so I'll give it a go as well I reckon.

Heard about this - nice to get a positive report. Will add this to my Christmas reading list I think - cheers

The Passage is a fantastic read, a very large book, but a very good read. If your a fan of this genre you wont be disappointed.

I've just today finished reading the second instalment, The Twelve, & while not as gripping a read still nonetheless very entertaining.

As for the film I'm not sure it will happen at all. I read when The Passage was released about Scott obtaining the rights to the movie, but the latest directorial name being banded about is Matt Reeves of Cloverfield fame. There's also some talk of it becoming a TV mini-series, but whatever I hope it hits the screens in some format soon, but please do it justice.

If you are a fan of this genre I can also recommend THIS
