What I do find interesting is that Southend Council have been very sympathetic and "helpful" in all of this, by issuing CPOs, and agreeing to a phased approach.

However, compare that to other councils who have actually helped fund stadiums for their local teams such as Doncaster...

Especially now, after so many years of seemingly making things more difficult than they needed to be... under the circumstances, the council are probably finally realisng that Southend United might just be an asset to the town, and the development of Fossetts is much needed - but, notice how they are only now being helpful with sainsburys on the scene! Would this be because sainsbury's are a safer bet than slippery ron...??

However, the council's help will never extend to helping fund the stadium development whilst we have had such a procession of crettins running the club over the years - especially when the web of jiggerypokery cant be easily unravelled without some serious investment from an outside source. Had Southend had a Robbie Cowling type businessman in charge; someone who owns and runs a genuine and profitable business, and who is genuinely funding the club not bleeding it dry, then I am sure that the coucil wouold have been far more willing to spend scarce public money on a development for the community. No council in the country would back a development of this nature financially if there is any risk that taxpayers money ends up in the hands of Mr Martin and his ilk!!

Just for clarity. When we draw down money from Sainsburys it doesn't mean we are reducing tge amount we are getting for Roots Hall, just that we are getting some of it early.. I know most on here get it, but Reading through this thread it appears some don't!!

Don't be so condescending and read how it was put across in the original statement that's why I asked, it certainly came across as having some kind of disadvantageous terms attached to drawing cash now rather than waiting for the sale to conclude and if you think about it if Sainsburys were to impose terms for early drawing down it would actually be quite fair.

Can I ask how you know the exact terms of the contract ? I presume you like the rest of us don't know the finer details and are going by what you read on here and in the press ?

This project has been on the cards for decades and I for one believe the council has many times done all it can to be a hindrance rather than a help. I recall one head of planning saying, 'the site applied for is not appropriate. It is not for the council to suggest where the new stadium should be and nor shall we. It is up to the club to make proposals and then we will look at them'. Some help that is! They put a housing project on The Kursaal, did not give a stuff about the pier and generally allowed a once great tourist seaside town, the second biggest attraction to Blackpool, to offer nothing more than Rossi icecream and thieving slot machines.

1100 members, it was getting on for 2000 when I was on the committee

Highest number of Members recorded was 1527 in the 2005/06 League 1 Champions Season, which in reality is no where near 2000.
Membership Numbers have always followed the form of the Team. Increasing steadily from 929 in 2003 and decreasing from 2006/07 as we were relegated.

So unfortunately I don't think you can claim the drop in members being down to you leaving

What about junior members , don't they count ?

How many life members do you have ? That number will only decrease as people pop off.
