When I was treasurer it was always the plan for the coaches to break even over the course of the season. Whether its still the same I do not know.

Perhaps someone from the Trust could advise us if the Trust's remit is that the coaches are non-profit and whether they make or lose money.

I'm sure if you want a definitive answer to that any Trust member, such as yourself Ken, could contact the Trust through the website.

With the help of my old mate Google I found this :-

The Shrimpers Trust operate coaches to all away games on behalf of Southend United Football Club. The objective is for us to break even at the end of each season, and the scheme will be run on a not for profit basis. All Trust Members, along with Southend Junior Shrimper Members, Students and Concessions can travel at a reduced fare.

Is it a secret , not for public display ?

Nope, not as far as I know, figures presented at any committee meeting and usually look to break even over the year. As I say, if what I've said isn't enough for some, then email the Trust direct.

Witch hunt ? With regards to what exactly ?
The almost Barna-esque continuation along a theme.................sorry if not, that's just the way it felt. I was open and honest with TBS and also with you but it felt like that wasn't enough. The Trust comes in for a huge amount of flack and coaches apart, I didn't feel their travel arrangements was a deserving target.

I have heard remarks regarding travel costs, coaches not being very customer-friendly and conking out on the road and was endeavouring to find out for the Zone members to get a picture of Trust travel. It seems to be quite an experience for travellers.

As a Trust member I am exercising my right to ask questions. I have not e-mailed any Trust person as questions on the Zone are usually answered by Zone members of the Trust committee.

Ken, I can assure you I'm not happy with the situation with the coaches. It's happened a bit too often for my liking but as someone who has used the Trust coaches many times in the past, I can assure you that there is no question of ample profits going into the coffers. The (lest we forget) volunteers who run the coaches do so to smooth the passage of people wishing to attend. As far as I see it, the Trust and TZ work perfectly well in tandem with each other, and the different choices available to supporters means that they can chose a mode of transport that suits them. That's as it should be.

, who would travel on 20 year old coaches with nearly a million miles on the clock, leaking leaving wet seats, mechanically unsound

Did'nt have a choice in the 70's when going to away games under the Brothers Grimm organisation. If we got back to Southend without having broken down, or having a couple of windows put out by 'friendly' home fans, it was a rarity!.

And SJS members,Students and concessions got a considerably raw deal going to Derby County and Liverpool to watch the reserves (whom they sponsor). They had to pay the same as Adults!

Personally, i think the deal the Trust are probably locked into with SBS doesn't represent a fair deal to its members and travelling customers. Also the fact that they have been the supplier of coaches for so long would suggest a new deal is required and probably with a new Coach company. I saw the Flagship SBS Blue Sammy/Elvis painted coach at Fleet Services on Saturday and it had gaffer tape on the roof and passengers were complaining that seats were apparently wet, is this what Trust members deserve? There was then a breakdown on the way home at Exeter Services because of a hydraulic problem. Earlier in the season the Trust Coach broke down on the M62 on the way home from Bury. Reliability is an ongoing issue with a fleet older than Cricko!

The combination of Brothers Grimm and Supreme Coaches and their stroppy drivers. Much better in the late 60s and early 70s when they were run in a much more laissez-faire manner; we didn't make much money from them though, but happy times!

there seems to be a lot of people slagging off the trust coaches lately ,each to there own ,been travelling with them for years and only had a couple of hiccups.

Firstly, if there wasn't the hiccups, perhaps more people would travel with them.
Secondly, there are enough Coach companies out there that would bite the trusts arm off to get that contract. I dare say with better prices and coaches too! TZ is a prime example of that!
