Highest number of Members recorded was 1527 in the 2005/06 League 1 Champions Season, which in reality is no where near 2000.
Membership Numbers have always followed the form of the Team. Increasing steadily from 929 in 2003 and decreasing from 2006/07 as we were relegated.

So unfortunately I don't think you can claim the drop in members being down to you leaving

Could claim that the missing members (ouch) are usually found on TZ coaches these days:winking:

I think you'll find actually, that a lot of those who travel on the TZ coach are actually Trust members as well, they just choose to travel on a different coach with their friends.

It would be better to travel on the Trust coaches to support the Trust so they have more money to lend the club, if the need arises.

I'm thinking there may be a hint of sarcasm involved in your comments. Being serious for a moment, who would travel on 20 year old coaches with nearly a million miles on the clock, leaking leaving wet seats, mechanically unsound & most importantly far more expensive than TZ. Maybe the extra fiver a head that the Trust charges a head compared to TZ is going into the emergency TefRon fund! If it wasn't for TZ (& SOL travel) charging a realistic fare, I wouldn't have gone to as many games as I have.

I know there are other attractions on the coach, food, drinks, friendly people & a bloody good quiz, but its the money that matters, not paying towards TefRons retirement fund!

:soapbox:

To be fair though Rich, I think you'll find that TZ is cheaper in the main because of sponsorship. The Trust don't set out to make massive profits on travel, but the competitive nature of TZ's shorter journeys means that they have to do the same and then have to make the money up somewhere, which is why they do seem more expensive sometimes. It's certainly not to contribute anything to Ron Martin! There will always be those committed travellers who will prefer to use the Trust's mode of transport anyway, I think it's a good thing to have the two complementary styles.

As to the coaches, well, I rather think something might be said as it's becoming far too regular an occurence!

I am a life member and apart from once when we played Bury away (yes that one) I have never been on a coach to an away match. (Even that day I only went up there on the coach and came back by car). (I even flew up to Everton). Usually I travel by car because of the convenience plus the fact that I don't live in Southend so I'd have to arrange a pick up by the M25. I am considering (because of the cost of petrol) using the coaches. Is it possible to arrange a pick up at the 127/M25 when they pass through that way?

I don't know how TZ do the prices, but if it is through sponsorship, then I would have thought that an official Trust coach would be easier to do the same?

The bottom line is price & comfort and that is what matters. 20 year old coach vs a brand new coach (apart from yesterday, but even that was a fraction of the age of the Trusts.

The point is, If the Trust make money from the travel, it should be ploughed back into the travel & made cheaper for their regulars, which is what I believe TZ do & have done on certain trips! If the Trust have made profits on travel, where does it go?

End of the day Rich, it's all swings and roundabouts. Some trips make a thumping great loss, others a healthy profit. They all kind of offset each other over the year, so any profit at the end is always a bonus.

Of course, but maybe the Trust should look into gaining sponsorship. The cheaper the trip, the more people will go & the more support the players will get.

I keep hearing how wonderful these TZ trips are and wonder why the Trust does not hand over the organisation to them.

Mind you it would give The Late One something less to moan about.
