Just over 2 weeks til kick off 1 senior striker at the club is this really good enough for a lge 1 outfit? I know he's in talks with one or 2 but it's time to nail the targets and get them started

yer I actually agree with you, if you intend to hit the ground running, regardless of what some of you say, you should have your new squad in and working together

This is why it's all well and good people giving it chill out plenty of time before the season starts a few weeks ago!! We know too well how these things pan out! Normally starting the season with a small squad and the relaying on late incoming loan signings!!

Yep agree, let's panic buy the next Striker available...

A small squad with loan signings did us ok last season.

There's a strong association between number of players used and league performance (fewer players is better). So there's no harm and plenty of benefits in having a small and competitive squad which is topped up with loanees.

1 striker we have!! We shouldn't be panic buying at this stage we should have the players I bet there isn't any clubs in the football lge currently with 1 senior striker!! Let's hope mooney stays fit eh

Relax. Phil Brown knows what he is doing much more than any poster on here.

Yeah cos that's what i said!

It would be nice to get our targets in early to train with the squad a ready for the start of the season. And before we get agents away rubbish, other sides managed it.

We did get away with it last season, but think it cost us in the previous couple.

How about those players are waiting for the best offer, as they are WANTED by other teams. I am glad we are not signing players that are accepting the first offer that comes to them, shows a bit of ambition (unlike our previous fan-loved striker).

Phil Brown will have plans in place in case Hunt/Pig do not sign, he knows what is doing. I certainly wouldn't mind another Assombalonga in on loan, if that is what we have to settle for.

Southend fans need a bit of realism, we are not going too be many players' first choice, they will want to negotiate and see what else is about. If that means by the end of the summer a player choices someone else, then so be it. If that means we sign someone close to the seaosn, excellent - we have won the race.

Stop panicking and thinking you have spotted something PB or RM do not know. I am sure they are very aware we have one first team forward.

But even if we do not get anyone else in pre-season, we will go one up top with Hurst/Worrell wide and 3 CM's, with a young loany on the bench with a bit of pace to come on....not the end of the world.

I remember two late incoming loan strikers, Stan Collymore and Freddy Eastwood, who didn't seem impacted by missing pre-season with us.

Britt Assombalonga signed two hours before our first league game of the season and hit the ground running.

Pre-season is about fitness. The football stuff sorts itself out. So long as the player we sign is training somewhere that is all that matters.

I'm told we have offered to take JBW on loan again but Palace are minded to send him somewhere else where he's likely to get more game time.

Rubbish, he was clearly a bit rusty when he joined. He did next to nothing for the first 5 seconds of his Southend career

Sad to see McAlinden's gone to Shrewsbury on loan, think he has something about him we currently lack and reckon he would have made a good partnership with Mooney.

Some on here are quite happy as we are, plenty of time blah blah blah, phil and Ron know what they are doing apparently
