I know we have plenty of midfielders but Chris Herd is still available on a free transfer.

He's injury prone but far too talented for League 1.

Surely, if no one else wants a crack, we can make some sort of offer.

Brown's bang on to offer Mackail-Smith a trial, and if we even consider offering him a deal I'd want him to be going through the most stringent medical known to man.

When will people learn that 99% of trialists are just here to make up the numbers. We have two first-team games in two days and we'll need bodies to play in them!

That is partly true .......... but then we have signed a number of players after they have appeared in pre-season friendlies so these games are still an opportunity for a player to put his foot in the door ...........

I understand the point you are making however BBBC would not have passed a medical would he? maybe M-S is in a similar position so I would expect more of a train/play/pay arrangement.

It's happened a few times where clubs have not signed a player due to issues with the medical. They have then gone to another club and banged them in for that club Demba Ba and Charlie Austin are two prime examples.

Also Ruud van Nistelrooy failed a medical at Man U first time around because the doctor said he had a dodgy knee. RvN said there was nothing wrong, but went back to his club and injured his knee the next day, and was out for a year!

Doesn't sound like theres much in it

Brown also remains keen on bringing former Brighton & Hove Albion striker Craig Mackail-Smith to the club on trial.

However, he has yet to hear back from the forward's agent.

“I still want to bring Craig in to have a look back but I haven't heard back from his agent,” said Brown.

“He said he would get back to me but as things stands right now he hasn't got back in touch.”

I would imagine there's be insurance cover. I could be wrong!

Nice lad, met him a couple of times on nights out in Perth. Think he used to play for Joondalup in the state league as he was out with those boys. Surely out of our league?

Fair point.

You'd like to think so especially as they shelled out nearly £20 million for him, which at the time was a hell of a lot for a player.

Not with is recent injuries unfortunately. I'm surprised no Championship club has at least offered him a trial. The longer it goes on, the better chance he could go to a League 1 club. He needs a club and has ruled out Australia. He wants to stay in England.
