A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Just seen this from Akinola. Not sure if it relates to us but the "I will not be moved" stood out to me. I think he could do a good job in this league so hope he does get reintegrated into the team View attachment 16493
Unlikely to see Akinola in the first team any time soon, but I suppose one scenario would be the inevitable injuries for our strikers force PB to bring Sim on from the bench and he scores. PB then says something like "I knew that Sim needed to be pushed hard by me before he performed to my satisfaction. He's a proven goalscorer at this level and my astute man management has ensured that he will now be a regular for us."

Shame he took the psalm so literally and would not move on the pitch.

Obviously no one is offering any where near what he is currently earning. No surprise in the current financial situation and his completely underwhelming performances last season.

He may have his fans on here but he never even fancied getting in the right areas to miss chances and bottled the odd good ones.

Seems non sensical that we are looking to bring in a proven forward at this level when we already have one in Sim who we are looking to dispense with. Football is non sensical tho.!

A friend of mine spoke to a few guys who have played with Sim and none of them think he is a striker, best playing wide in a front 3 or on the wing. I think if we had got Currie and not Molesley then we would have seen Sim utilised better. The whole balance of the team was wrong last season, no attacking player shone after we solidified at the back, I'm not sure why Sim is highlighted by so many. I saw a lot of good in his play especially in keeping posession in the opposition half when most of our team were struggling to do so. There is obviously a big split in opinion here, I think PB would be cutting off his nose to spite his face if he doesn't play Sim as if nobody is matching his wages then he will see out his contract as is his right.

Actually, Simeon Akinola has not been given much chance to "move on the pitch" by PB and the manager comes across as determined to get rid of him although PB has conceded the player has conducted himself professionally and done nothing wrong in training.

Didn't he have 20+ games last season to 'prove' himself.

When PB says we looked at the analysis and they didn't look good for SA. What that really means is CF and RD already knew he wasn't working hard enough. They look at all the stats after every game.

Last week Bridge crossed the ball without fuss and Dalby was in the right place and slotted home without fuss. ANG would have had 3 more touches than Bridge and the cross would not have happened, if it did Akinola would have been close but not quite got on the end of it.

Thats why we are in the NL and ANG and Akinola wont't win anyone promotion. The money will be better spent on another Murphy or Dalby.

Never rated either of them

Maybe. But until that happens, having Sim on the bench or thereabouts would probably be a reasonable thing to do.

The reason we are in the NL is Ron Martin.

Our results picked up after we signed ANG and then Akinola but we’d left ourselves too big a hole to climb out of.

I think this is important as well. Brown seems to want to play 352 and, probably, 442. I don't see Brown playing the kind of system that allows Akinola to flourish, with wide forwards, even without the disagreement over work rate. But that will be key as that's what Brown is all about. To me, it seems like we might as well have him in and around the squad, number etc, as long as doing that doesn't upset the team dynamic.

it seems odd you'd completely mug him off, not even give him a squad number etc. but he will have his reasons

I suspect there’s more to this than Akinola’s work rate / performance on the field. I’m not ITK but maybe it’s attitude or lack of team player?
PB sai din an interview that it was his impact running, in a game (he didnt mention which but I suspect Colchester) that Sim only did 40 yards of impact running. I guess hit sis closing down the defenders etc which is why he decided he wasnt the type of player he wanted As he wants people playing for the short running hard and doing whats needed

I suspect you don't use Sim when you are trying your best to sit on a 1 goal lead and for Brown that is the only way!
The irony is I think he would be ideal for that. Great at holding the ball up, good in the air and has the ability to wriggle out of tight situations and win fouls.

It's pretty damn obvious that whatever we think Simeon Akinola is not going to feature in Phil Brown's plans.

I suspect it’s not about Akinola and more about PB wanting to make a statement about this being a new regime. Akinola is just collateral damage. Remember it’s not just Akinola as ANG not given a shirt number and last year’s player of the season surprisingly benched. The only Molesley signing that played v King’s Lynn was Ferguson and I don’t suppose he’s here for long.
