Yes, if they are still registered to us as players and we want a fee. if we release them as free agents, which would mean paying their contracts up, or coming to the dreaded "mutual agreement" to do so, then they could be signed at any time as free agents.

Unless PB has a midfield that can create chances there is no point in getting another striker. Bringing in Mr 'Eyebrows' will break up the Dalby-Murphy partnership and not address the absence of a tough-tackling central play-maker in midfield.

Fair point. But this is a strike partnership that has scored 1 in 3, and had a couple of unproven kids come on as sub when unable to score past a team that let in 99 last season. I’m not having a dig at these two, but I get frustrated when folk never think we should be looking to improve our squad in a world where Messi, ronaldo and mbappe exist.
I cast my mind back to about 2004, when Tilly had his defence sorted… but Spencer Prior became available and Ron was quoted as saying something like Tilly phoned him at midnight and told him we needed to add an extra one. IMO Spinner was our most influential defender in those mid noughties glory years.
