A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

I rated Sim. Thought he worked hard and had good feet.
ANG I loved at first, but we went game after game with no assist or goals. I’d be interested to see his ‘numbers’. If he gets that he will be a great player.

Memories do get very short on here at times

Sim played 23 games for us, he had a bad start and had to play through injury

From shrimperzoners on here his ratings were very good in Chaperz charts, frequently in the top 3 performers

Now it seems its time to jump on his neck

I for one really enjoyed his tricky play, of course he didnt score enough and the pen will doom him, but I also remember him and ANG as the only players worth watching on may occasions

Football, a game of opinions and ones that change rapidly it seems from Hero to Zero a little to quickly, sadly the nature of the game and keyboards
Quite agree,

Akinola really upped our game with workrate and guile when he finally arrived. I thought he was a skillfull player with a good workrate.

With hindsight perhaps this just highlighted just how **** poor our team was last year. As it stands tho i prefer where we are at now, having strikers who are strikers, not supporting strikers/widemen who imo is what akinola is.

Penalty aside sim doesnt deserve throwing under the bus imo. He doesnt fit in with PBs plans and thats enough for me.

Today Sim may well get to put on a Southend shirt and play for the badge! Go well Sim.. Hear reserves game against Maidstone.
Where is it being played? B&L?

And does anyone have an answer to the question of o servers can now watch training and stuff again at B&L? I believe Mr Bond blocked it iirc.

A disappointment definitely yet ANG had a decent scoring record at Crawley for a wide player, didn't seem to want to shoot when here though.

The flip side of that. We push our budget to the limit with Mr eyebrows and the other strikers stay fit. PB has a real hard time incorporating them all.

We lose a player in another area and don't have the budget to bring someone in.
It's almost as though these are exactly the decisions you employ an experienced manager to make! ?

ANG, people loved him at first as we've not seen anyone who can dribble past people like that in years. It took a while to work out that he struggled for end product once he'd beaten two men.
ANG made the fatal mistake of not tracking back or getting stuck in with tackles during training. Its a PB pet hate if he perceives a player not giving 100% in training or at least looking like hes trying. Coupled with never ending zig zag runs in games, giving away possession and not staying in position during games which pulled the teams shape all over the place, it was an easy decision not to be included in plans. Yes hes skillful. But simply not a team player

I'm still concerned. Until PB finds a suitable upgrade I still think it's a rash decision. And even if he does have a target there's no guarantee that the player in question will join given our current state.

We have some young, raw talent in the squad but none of them have experience at this level in this division whereas Akinola has.

I understand the view that Akinola is not the type of player Brown wants or likes.

And I also agree that Akinola is a resource available to the club & therefore the club should be using him to their benefit - even whilst trying to get the player off the books.
I kind of feel he would be used - however where does he fit in a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 - the answer is nowhere...he cannot play as a striker, we've all seen that so really he's left / right of a front 3 and I don't see us playing that.
Likewise with ANG, where would he play, wing back in a 3-5-2 or wing on a 4-4-2. Deffo not wing back and unlikely to work anywhere near hard enough to track back in a 4-4-2.

I suspect these reasons more than any other are why they are not in the squad, in these formations they aren't Phils cup of tea :-)

A little update on John Akinde:

Interestingly, Steve Evans was just on Transfer Talk and he was saying they have the lowest resources in League 1. They only have 16 senior players this season, the rest are academy players. Was talking about getting rid of Maghoma to free up wages. Obviously needs to do the same with Akinde.

Phil isn’t afraid to make tough calls .. Akinola doesn’t fit with his plans and that’s that really. He’s unlikely to change his mind.
Again, shouts of Sim being “good at this level” are based on his performances for another team and not Southend. Yeah you know damn well he’ll go somewhere else and hit form, then everyone will say he shouldn’t have been let go. Same ones who slagged him for the penalty miss probably.

Unfortunately the best way of forcing a move is what PB has done to make clear to player/agent he won't be involved. Any mixed messages runs the risk of a player sitting out the final year of his contract because he feels the manager will relent. Clarity for both player and agent is better...and no doubt the investment elsewhere will from PB's view be of far greater benefit..

Has Mrs Akinde ever been to Grimsby?.....

It can't be easy for Akinola

Signs for team

Can't play for 6 months due to an embargo/injury

When he does play, the team is **** and there are no fans

Everything on social media is negative

He then misses a penalty and due to the season he had, the fans had no more patience left and we took it out on him.

All of a sudden he's gone from a beloved Barnet player to being hated by fans he's never witnessed.

I do feel for him and if he wanted to be here, I'd imagine Brown would have given him a number ... in fact, Brown even said he was impressed with him in training albeit, he might have just been trying to drive the interest up to offload him.

You are Simeon Akinola’s agent & I claim my £5 (Plus 25% commission of course?)
