A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

You nee
The flip side of that. We push our budget to the limit with Mr eyebrows and the other strikers stay fit. PB has a real hard time incorporating them all.

We lose a player in another area and don't have the budget to bring someone in.
You need to rotate strikers to keep them fresh even if they somehow avoid injury..

If there is no transfer window in this league then this thread could run and run through Autumn, Winter and then Spring. 3847 posts now, could it be the a bigger thread than the Holmes saga? Scary!!

Absolutely - there’s always a balance of risks to juggle in all areas.

We do still have ANG and Akinola, whose faces seem to definitely not fit. If they can find other clubs then some wages are freed up. Plus there is a small outside chance of a bit of compo if Elvis finds himself a league club (although that’s starting to look unlikely).

That extra cash could fund mr eyebrows or another striker, and in which case Kargbo might only be here until the end of September.

On the other hand, I haven’t seen Kargbo and he might be the guy for the job anyway. He’s only been given just over a month’s contract though which suggests either that Phil isn’t fully convinced or that he has someone better he hopes to bring in.

Who knows… but I suspect we’ll know once the EFL transfer window closes. Eyebrows will either have been replaced in the squad of his current club or he won’t. If he hasn’t been replaced, I don’t see them releasing him to us (and certainly not chipping in some lolly to make it happen).

Another thought occurs to me - it could be that we play against a team & Phil Brown thinks "wow, I really liked that opposition player".

Might there be a situation as the season progresses where we (Southend United) could be trying to obtain the services of players from other Conference teams? There is no transfer window of course.

As I have said on previous posts, I would hope that good home performances (& therefore crowds) could boost the finances made available to Phil Brown.

Exactly. What if one of Murphy or Dalby gets injured and is out for say 2 months or more? Yes we have Rushy but for all his promise he remains unproven as a goal scorer in the first XI. For me we definitely need another proven first-team-ready striker - preferably a 6 footer.

Rushy is more proven than Dennis and Kargbo at this level it's even arguable over Dalby and yet he is younger. He stepped up end of last season when given a run in the side with PB in lg 2. Showed in pre season he can score goals without playing with the stronger team! If Kargbo is preferred because he is big then we should let Rush go out on loan. I suspect Kargbo has a clause in his monthly contract meaning he has to be on bench at least. Not a great way to treat one of our own promising players that is desperate to play for PB and show his worth. Even if Rush is used in the last 30 mins of games it's an option I would not be dismissing over Kargbo! Let's see how things progress after Saturday and Monday.

I would say 2/3 more players just to fill the depth a little, outside of that bench yesterday, I can't think of many names that would make a great deal of impact if they came on.

I'm feeling another centreback, winger/wingback and striker? Striker is an odd one because I feel we do have a few but if the ol' likely Southend injury comes in, can't help but feel we might lack if we lose Dalby or Murphy.

There might not be a transfer window but those kind of players will likely be under contract so a transfer fee will be due. An unlikely scenario.

Rush and Walsh weren’t on the bench yesterday and both had some decent performances towards the end of last season.

I think PB feels the need to play his new signings on first day of season, can understand that. Think Dennis could be a very useful loanee this year but still will need to prove his worth week in week out. I'm more sceptical or Kargbo and his month by month contract may well be a good clue.

I think I've read somewhere that month to month is quite common practice across clubs. It's to do with minutes gained by the player and who pays the wages for the month. That may be total rhubarb, but I do remember something along those lines.

Anyone more knowledgeable want to chip in?

Quite possibly! I'm interested in the difference between Dennis 12 month contract and Kargbo being monthly.. guessing more credentials in the Dennis signing over Kargbo's... obviously Norwich are Prem and QPR Championship. Would have thought the best form players play on match days but.. loan contracts may stipulate otherwise? Disaster for our own promising youngsters pushing for first team places?

Tend to agree with you on that

With Dunne out briefly or otherwise and Clifford, plus Coulson needing a back 3 according to Brown as he is 3 two 4 weeks behind because of the broken toe, shows how quickly limitations appear. Another defender injury and we are potentially struggling, although Howard can cover, Ralph is very flexible and Hobson was on the bench. Dennis could do defensive shift if desperate, but I hope it doesnt come to that. Halfords on the end of the phone????,

If we do decide to bring in another defender I have no idea why we wouldn't look at Kyprianou. Never put a foot wrong and was great in League 1 for us. Fits the bill of the 'left-footed centre half' that's desired.

Still a free agent
A few other possible options I dug up in terms of left footed defenders - Ash Kigbu, Jaydn Mundle-Smith, Tristan Cover, Sefa Karahman plus on the loan front Elkan Baggot, Saul Shotton or Joe Gubbins.

Have to agree with Howard. Very much impressed in pre season although the competition was somewhat limited! Feel for Howard in the sense he was loaned out to Kings Lynn last season and never got on the bench against them Saturday. From what I see and hear Howard is stepping up to the plate both for Kings Lynn last season and therefore, no reason to dismiss him as a player this year for Southend. Looking forward to seeing Dunne back in the midfield and the day he gets given then captains armband. One that inspires the younger players. Respect Dunne

Halford.. the name shakes my bones aggressively.

we're got 2 keepers, 2 right backs, 3 left backs, 3 centre backs plus Ralph so how much playing time would another defender get? Not much, so hard to justify paying for someone else. I really hope MMN steps up and is good enough if needed.

Wing backs is an odd one, not seen Bridge there but apparently he's been really good. I wouldn't have had down as a wing back but Brown is happy with him. Then Dennis has played there, plus I'd say as well as JD we have Howard on the right, Ralph and Clifford could probably do that job.

Centre midfield Dunne, Agogo, Ferguson, Phillips, Gard plus Coker. Hard to see space there. Wingers Bridge, Egbri, Walsh plus Kinali. Depends on the system, but hard to see much more squad space. One who plays centre and wide would allow us to switch during a game, so I'm not counting out Will Atkinson, unless one of the above can do that job.

Strikers Dalby, Murphy, Rush, Dennis, Kargbo. Again, any extra will struggle for game time.

I honestly think we might be done in terms of transfers, only getting others in to cover injuries, suspensions and then as a last resort

Probably not much as things stand but I'd have concerns if Ralph gets injured. Might be wise to have a look at a couple of options on trial.
