A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

So, is there a "grading" for eyebrows - from just a small (almost involuntary) movement through to a full "Roger Moore acting" sweat creating action?

Or is it more a "yes" or "no" position?

I have a feeling the eyebrows are going to stay well warmed up but unused (like Gary Nelson in his later days) as I don't think this is going anywhere ............

Toyosi Olusanya has signed a two year contract with Middlesbrough. The 23 year old striker/winger, scored 8 goals in 4 pre-season friendlies for Billericay. Incredible that we can miss him from right under our nose, but a club the other end of the country can spot and sign him.

just coz we didn't sign him doesn't mean we missed him. who'd you prefer to sign for out of 5th tier non-league club and 2nd tier going for the prem?

How do you know he was given a choice? I haven't heard we were looking at him. I suspect he would have signed for the first bigger club than Billericay, that offered him a contract.

Also a total stab in the dark for them as he's never shown a great deal before this pre-season campaign.
When Neil Warnock says ''I hope he can excite everyone here, like he excites me.''
Then you know he can't be that bad. I trust Neil Warnock's judgement. Some players take off late in their career. Some, when the penny drops. Some mature late. Some drop the off field bad stuff, as time ticks away.

If we have an established & stable core of the team & a club travelling in the right direction that's when I might think about taking punts on players rather than in the middle of a rebuild. Similar sort of punt to that we took on Isaac Layne and while it didn't work out it was a sensible time to do so.

I don't, but it's possible we weren't interested, couldn't afford him, didn't rate him. all kinds of reasons but I doubt we knew nothing about him
I wouldn't be surprised. We have an appalling record of spotting local talent over about 20 years of age. A massive list of good players that went to other clubs. And nearly all those players said Southend never spoke to them. A lot said they would have liked to play for Southend, probably because they don't have to uproot, and a lot supported Southend growing up.

Back in the Tilly & Brush days we had shadow squads of players we would be interested in if one of our player positions become available ie sold, long term injured or not planning on renewing contracts etc. A lot of these were made up of good local young players in and out of the football league. There was good knowledge of those sort of players. Wonder what we do now? If anything?

Spot on. Tilly & Brush used to go and watch a lot of Essex games. Sometimes they would split up and go to different games if a few games on. They knew the importance of it. Even though we had a chief scout. I'm not sure we have a scout or chief scout at the moment? I know Anton R is Head of recruitment. The Board used to decide how much is allocated for scouting. I think the scouting went South since PB's first stint as manager, and then we had to rely more on the managers to identify targets. They failed miserably.
