A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

I can remember back in 1973 Chelmsford city signed Vince O'Kane from Charlton for £5,000 , now that was a step down and a lot of money .

I see that Marcus Maddison has just signed for Spalding United, that's either a hell of a drop for him or an indication of the spending going on in non-league
Crazy! I’d take him next season, crafty player, kind of what we need in the NL.

Spalding? Didn’t Ranger play for them for a while

Wow! Top league 1 player, I know he had personal issues but he way to good for that level..... would of been quality signing for us let alone spalding.

Didnt he end a loan spell at Bolton as he couldn’t cope mentally with pro football any more

He said it doesn't bring him joy anymore. While on loan at Bolton meant he couldn't see his daughter and was stuck in a hotel room a lot of the time.

Don't think he will be a realistic option for us.

We've released a couple of strikers who are primarily midlands or southern based;-
Courtney Baker Richardson (25) (who never actually got to play for us) - missed the 1st half of the season with an injury picked up around the time we signed him, then loaned to Barnet in the NL. Has played in the championship for Swansea scoring 3 goals at that level.
Mikael Ndjoli (23) - signed in January from Bournemouth where he was mainly in the reserves - but had been loaned to SPL team Kilmarnock in Scotland - scoring 5 goals, was also on loan at Gillingham in 2019/20 scoring 3 goals. was formerly an academy player at both Brentford and Millwall. only made 2 sub appearances for us as he couldn't get ahead of Scott Quigley and Calvin Andrew in the pecking order.
We've also released Calvin Andrew.

Sorry mate we are not interested in your cast offs because we did the double over you last season. Its you that needs to be looking at our released list.

The National League could be quite a tough time for some of our players. Obviously there are the mid 30 year old cloggers/units but there is also a good portion of extremely quick talented younger players that for various reasons dont and wont get picked up by league clubs for various reasosns. (Discipline, attitude, earning restrictions). Some of our boys are likely to get skinned down the wings and in the middle on occasions, as well as battered. Unlike league 2 where the majority were just poor mundane cloggers. There will be some very talented players in NL teams where the discipline training and attitude required are not so strict, stringent or needed.

we had youngsters who were seen as prospects for getting in a 3rd tier team. I'd like us to build around them. add the experience and toughness to that group where necessary but have them form the spine of the team that tries to get us back up.

Weymouth were nowhere near the National League when Goodship was with them.

Goodships last season at Weymouth was in the NLS just one below the NL....he scored 37 league goals in 41 games. It wasn’t really “nowhere near” the NL it got his side promoted into it!!

Still in the youth, had a loan spell with Canvey last season .... don't think he's really up to the standard at the moment

Freddie was released this week. I feel for the lad and the undue pressure he was under, with too many on here debating whether he should play in tne first team at 16/17 based on who he is rather than how good he is.

Harry Beautyman is probably one of the best attacking midfielders in the NL, but isn't highlighted in the article. He is at Sutton though - so may end up in the EFL soon.

Harry Beautyman is a super player and a dedicated intelligent footballer. I worked with him when he was 19/20 and believed he’d have a better pro career than he’s probably had tbf. But he has looked settled and happy at Sutton for the last couple of years and if they’re promoted, at 29/30 I doubt he’d be looking to uproot himself and drop down a league and probably fancies himself to be a key, experienced player in helping
Sutton in the EFL.

No it wasn't. You've mixed up the National League South with the Southern Premier South, Goodship's promotion winning season with Weymouth was in the latter competition, which is the 7th tier of English football. Weymouth did get promoted again in the 2019/20 NLS season but they did it without Goodship because that's the season Bond bought him to the club.

I stand correct ?

The last 18 months has become a blur ?

Having seen Harry Beautyman play a few times over the last couple of seasons and recently on tv, it’s clear that he’s very special/talented. I believe he is the key to Sutton’s promotion push this season and I’m certain he will be playing in league 2 next season, probably with Sutton. To me I think Sutton will be looking to sign up a striker for next season and will be aware of the best that the NL has available. I would suggest they will have an advantage over us.

There is a big difference between the National (Premier) League and the North & South divisions. Not all players and particularly strikers can make that step forward (better defences etc). He also had a few games on loan in the NL at Braintree and never looked like scoring. I suspect he may get a club take a chance on him in the NL South again.
