A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

I don’t really have a problem with RM being cautious with who we offer deals to. I wouldn’t mind Holmes signing, but Ron has paid an eye watering amount of money to seemingly permanently injured players in the past, as well as throwing good money after bad. It’s done us absolutely no good and he’s learnt his lesson the very hard way. Can’t blame him if it’s 347 times bitten, twice shy.

Agree with this- except not sure I would pick this player and on such a modest deal to be trying to make the point. If he was going to be on £2k week I would absolutely agree.
On top of which we’ve seen him play and it’s not like he’s a complete unknown quantity like others we’ve signed in the (recent) past. If only Ron had put his foot down then, eh?

RM has told him.

Ultimately, it’s RM’s football Club and the majority of the money is RM’s. He is well within his rights to say no to a player.

RM is very good at backing his managers, the only manager that would dispute that is Sol Campbell. He has said no to certain players in the past, and he will again in the future no doubt.

RM says yes to his managers more often than no. I, personally, don’t have a problem with RM in this instance. He may change his mind, he may not, but since the Powell days, we’ve had so many injuries and a worrying number of long term ones. Can you blame RM if he doesn’t want to be paying a salary of another player that potentially wont play a huge amount of games.

Obviously, that could happen to any player, but RM won’t say no to everyone so it never happens again.

Not how Brown describes it though so some disconnect there. Is he not then concerned that Brown is making these statements?

It's not about the player it's more about the scenario for me. Shows we are not being run correctly still!

The guys an inept owner and catastrophic failure (using his own words). That's why we are in this s*** league and we aren't going to be getting out anytime soon.

We might get out sooner than you think ...

Conference South, here we come

Damn newspaper shop is nearly as good on admin and transfers as RM, because this week I ended up with a NON-League paper AND Football League one, which should have been cancelled for obvious reasons, lol.

Anyway one interesting point in an article in there, and for those thinking that because the EFL kicked off last Saturday, all of a sudden there are going to be a load of non picked players, who weren't even on the bench going to be chomping at the bit to find an NL club or lower damn quickly. Thus, to get sorted for the season and meaning that by the time we kick off on the 21st, we can mop up some signings in this position, maybe not so. This is due to the transfer window in the EFL, not closing until the 31st August same as the Prem. Therefore, players who are not involved, told they can move on from a Lower division EFL clubs, will still have their agents touting them around other EFL clubs first and doing so until the 31st Aug, therefore negating the need to move before then and keeping league options open, should they still be under contract, like Sim and ANG at the Hall.

So, if we cannot get anything sorted, move out Sim or ANG, I am not expecting any movement on the transfer front, or certainly the pace of movement to remain becalmed, until September, when urgency on any unattached players would then play a part. So our squad may remain much the same as it is now until then.

Better than it was this time last year for sure, but not the end product that we and PB want to be able to make a positive impact on the NL, that we are all hoping for.

Just a word of warning and to try and keep expectations in perspective.

A lot of good points. The highlighted point about Ferdinand hardly playing after the 1st season is not how I remember it and Wikipedia backs up my recollection. He played 36 times in his 1st season and 35 in his 2nd season. I remember him having niggles in the second season and playing (badly) because he never had time to recover.
Apologies for my factual error and I should have checked. It was in his third season that he did not play but I think it would be fair to say that his best performances for us were in his first season. My apoloigies once again, and, I have to remind myself that I am now too old to rely on memory without checking up on things!

PS I would say I owe you a beer but you might not be able to rely on me to remember the promise should I ever run into you (opening of the new stadium perhaps?)by the time we are allowed to travel again!

Perhaps a timely reminder that a strong contributory factor to top 8 NL clubs last year was the 53 young loanees they recruited, This was close to an average over the course of the season of SEVEN each. I appreciate the EFL clubs will be sorting things out, but not all the ,loanees came from that direction, although the numbers are increasing

Just wondering when we might finally travel a bit in this direction as well as forever flaff around with Ricky

When was our last actual new signing?

It seems its been a while and we still haven't tied up the two loaness yet.

We are playing our last offical friendly tonight and are still I'm my opinion about 3 or 4 players short.

Seems a little shambolic to me.

It is shambolic, but that is nothing new these days. It just looks like the same mess we have faced the last few seasons.

Interestingly in one of today's Echo articles, the Under 23s are playing against Stevenage tomorrow and over age players can be included. Brown also mentions a game on Saturday - must be behind closed doors, no mention of the opposition.

It was earlier in the article about Clifford where Brown said:

“He had 20 minutes at the weekend and was looking like he would play a part in one of the games this week and the game on Saturday with a view to starting against King’s Lynn."

I suppose he could have been talking about last Saturday
