A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

We could offer a pay as you play or a lower basic with add ons if he plays, assists or scores

But if you can’t play, you don’t get paid. Why would you sign it?

Even those not injured. Look at Akinola, a firm favourite of MM, change of manager and he is out on his ear and wouldn’t be getting paid if he isn’t playing.

People suggest these things, but don’t really think a great deal into it.

Lovely stuff @BoyWonder2 , thanks. Great little Easter egg about the coach and that he’s at a national team! Thinking caps on.

also I’d love Holmes to stay but got to say hats off to Ron if that’s the case about his concerns over Holmes. Maybe brown let’s this one go to bank some goodwill for a bigger/better signing.

Thats why i also said a lower base with add ons if you do play.

for the record a lot of players in later years with injuries have pay as you play contracts, a lower base with add ons when the play. Obviosuly if helps if you have a lot of dosh in the bank but they are not unusual.

Was meant to post an update earlier, but have been away on a stag do over the weekend and spent the day catching up with my missus and little boy.

Firstly, we are not under any embargo/squad limit size, or anything of that nature. All bills, wages, other expenditures etc are all up to date, so any talk of embargoes is nonsense.

CP beat me to part of the update with his story recently put online about the first team coach. Was a recommendation from RD, and PB liked what he heard and the coach like what he saw at training Friday. He came in today and put the players through their paces in almost a “job interview”. An contract offer has been emailed across, and hopefully should all be sorted soon. Likely to combine his role with the national team he works with, along with here, but that isn’t set in stone.

Re RH. Again, no embargo, PB hasn’t blown the budget and RH isn’t asking for big money or long term deals. It’s purely down to RM and his reluctance at the moment. We’ve been stung far too much with paying players that are unable to contribute to the side, through injury. Look at Ralph, Lennon, Hyam, Hooper etc. RH has an injury that will get worse over time, and will mean he has to hang his boots up sooner than he’d like. RM had similar doubt about a deal for Ralph, but age was on his side. RH doesn’t have that. Obviously anyone could break down on the first game of the season and miss a year. Could be someone prone to injury, with a history of it, or someone who has never visited the treatment table. RM purely is trying to limit that risk. It isn’t a case of the League One striker or RH or anything like that. PB needs to convince RM. Farnborough have offered RH more than us, but so have other Clubs, and he has turned them down. It’ll purely be down to RH and his patience with RM dragging his heels.

The League One striker is on more than PB realised when they begun talks a while ago, this has been bubbling away long before last Sunday. The League One striker would like to come here, but will purely be down to working out a deal. If he does join, he would have taken a wage cut to be here, and will fit in with the existing wage budget we have, not on top of that.

There is room left in the budget. I’m not privy to figures, only figure I got told before was a player we tried to sign, joined another National League Club for £3k a week, we will not be paying that sort of money. Now, we could have a barrel load or £50 left, I don’t know figures, but I know PB is happy with what he is working with and prepared to stick to those figures.

PB spoke very well during the zoom call last week, and confirmed pretty much exactly what I’ve mentioned before. I do have a bit more news, but I can’t put that out until PB makes it public, which he may not ever do to be fair. It doesn’t have to be something that is made public, especially outside of footballing circles.
Thanks for the great update any reason why no news on Matt Dennis yet? Thought that at least be confirmed

There isn’t that many as it goes, but it’s not impossible.

Why go for it though, when you have other offers on the table?

He has turned down three Clubs, including one in the EFL. Farnborough are involved now. He turned down the security of those deals because he is a Shrimper and loves the Club. Barrett turned down other offers whilst with us. He wants to stay, PB wants him to stay, however it isn’t purely down to those two, otherwise he’d have been the first player to commit.

Sorry, forgot the loanees.

I’d expect both of them through the door before the season opener. If it’s to be just one, Dennis is the most likely of the two because his seen as a starter straight off the bat. He has other options, but he is happy here, PB confirmed that.

The QPR lad would be an impact sub currently. Whether QPR are happy with that is what the deal will hinge on.

Fiancees on both deals have already been discussed.

In the league as in EFL and EPL there are. A lot with older players can assure you of that

Appreciate we are in the NL so may not be as common but if both sides are willing then this could well be an option ti suit everyone

Can assure you it’s not as many as you’d like to think.

This wouldn’t be an option that suits everyone, when RH has the option of more security elsewhere. Time will tell how this is resolved.

You've answered your own question - why would a player sign a deal that had an option of cancellation/reduced risk for the club if long-term injured - we're told he wants to play for us, and money is not the top priority.

We're assuming fitness/risk of injury is the problem - I'm suggesting a solution, variants of which are common place (Greg Halford was on month to month), seems obvious, so not sure it is the real issue.

i Said could and not would just for the record.

I am only going on my experience with the comment with they pay as you play contracts, I have worked for 4 clubs n the EFL over the years and it was quite common with those clubs for older players with injury history. anyway your insight is good for us not in the know so appreciate it
