A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

This division is so competitive now it’s arguably just an extension of league 2. Look at the money spent on players this season alone…it’s time for 3 up 3 down.

Agreed, but I’d go one step further and say it’s time to rebrand the NL as Lg3, and accept it into the EFL.

All you’ve got to do is look at the amount of former prem teams who are currently scattered across the EFL, and the former EFL teams that are stuck in non-league, to see that the gap between the top and bottom of the football pyramid continues to grow, and whilst the untold billions are annually pumped into the game at the top level, that gap will get bigger and bigger.

Obviously I’m not sure of the practicality of that, or how difficult it would be to transition over, but the simple fact is referring to the National League, as Non-League, is pretty redundant these days, because it just isn’t the same as it used to be years ago.

You wouldn't be saying that if we was still a football league team

I’m sorry Steve but he isnt. He hs a run of good form every season then fades away. As mentioned a few months ago a goodnseason for Southend this season would be to consolidate and finish midtable and try and build some momentum for next season for a play off push.

And as for Tshimanga coming to Chesterfield its because we have spent 125k to awuire him with extra’s of 25k for every promotion we get. Also he has signed a 3 year deal here. Its going to be a seriously hard division this season with us and stockport having quality squads,Wrexham/Notts County aswell and the ln the normal solid teams…bromley, solihull etc. You can’t underestimate these sides.

Best of luck next season from a Chesterfield Fan
Totally agree with this. And for that reason, I’m terrified.

Really hope Ron hasn’t underestimated how tough things will be.

If you parachuted Wrexham, Chesterfield, Notts County and Stockport into League 2, they'd all comfortably finish in the top 7.

The bottleneck in this league encourages people to try and spend to get out. We're seeing that more this season than any other.

In terms of quality, those teams are quite a long way ahead of anyone else.

But, as has been said (and arguably proven with Sutton, Harrogate and Barrow), promotion doesn't always go to the teams with the most money (Solihull, anyone?) or quality on paper in this division. Graft will count for an awful lot too, and I think we'll have it in abundance. Not expecting us to be solid promotion contenders, but I think we need to just wait and see how it all unfolds.

On paper, Wrexham, Chesterfield, Notts County and Stockport are a long way ahead of everyone else in the National League. But the battle for the top will not be decided on paper but on the pitch. And as Sutton demonstrated last season it is possible to prevail with limited resources.

100% agree. What the previous poster said about it almost being an extension of League 2 nowadays seems pretty accurate.

None of this is about player transfers. Probably need another thread for the strength of the National League tbh.

whats the latest news? We are not under an embargo, we haven't hit the max level of our budget, Brown is like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes down to signing players... so whats the latest ? is anything (apart from RM bored of that) close to happening?

I agree. I'd reform the League Cup too. Non-European teams and down to LG3.

This thread exists for the National League.

Yeah sorry was a bit blunt there but I do think this thread has gone a bit off-topic. But it’s probably only bothering me because we haven’t signed anyone in ages and no one has any news ?

I see there is quality in the division but what I'm less certain about is the distribution of that talent. Are the mid-table teams actually good or is that talent all concentrated in the top teams?

The bottleneck could be easily resolved by introducing another promotion place/relegation from L2.

I do not think it is a case of over or underestimating. It is a case of using wisely what money is available.
Our last two seasons have not just been unsuccessful; they have been calamitous. The NL has always been a tough league, and, by the sound of it, it will be especially competitive 2021-22. In these circumstances it will be an achievement if, by the end of the season, we are challenging for a play off spot.
On top of the forty four league games we have to play we will also compete in the FA Cup and FA Trophy. That could mean over fifty team games (well just forty six if you factor in our form in Cup competitions in recent years!) which will physically demanding for the players. The travelling will add yet another dimension to the challenges ahead, and, I would be very surprised if any of this is lost on RM.

I can see the league clubs voting for that in a heartbeat.
