A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

You're really think that a football club's official website would be the most reliable source for info of this nature, wouldn't you. However, I cannot remember a time when our OS was anything close to this.

I don't think the club, or at least the media department, have as much control as you might expect over the players that appear on the first team page. That's all generated centrally, along with the match stats, although if we're sticking with the current package I've no idea if they'll get updated in 2021/22 (looking at the Notts County website, the match-related stats appear to have been disabled).

I'll offer to update the U23s and Academy profiles now that the scholarships have been offered.

Harrogate Town had 2 big lads (Jonathan Stead & Xavier Beck) when they gained promotion.

Hash tag: justsaying
Don’t remember either of those scoring a hatful of goals when they were promoted, I believe Muldoon was their top scorer and he was more of a wondering no 10 rather than a target man.

I remember our two successful season's under Tilson, we didn't have a target man at all, when we got to the Championship we bought in Paynter, Revell and Harrold and they were all crap. If were gonna lump it yes a target man is a must but not sure we will be playing that style at all

Wayne Gray, Tes Bramble, Donkey Broughton, Shaun Goater and Lee Bradbury were all targetmen that played during our two promotion seasons under Tilly

Paynter, Revell and Harrold all went onto enjoy success, so maybe it was the assessment of them that was faulty.

Sorry but Wayne Gray and Tes Bramble weren’t targetmen. Not in the Barry Corr, use your strength, win your headers and hold the ball up sense.

Wayne Gray was all about pace and running on to the ball. And Tes was a keeper!

They absolutely were.

They were used as targets to play long balls towards. They used their strength to compete for the ball and hold the ball up.

Gray wasn't the tallest at about 6ft but had a tremendous leap on him and massive shoulders. He was a regular target of goalkicks and provided a potential outball for defensive clearances. His pace also helping keep defenders off-balanced allowing him to better compete for aerial balls.

Now he certainly wasn't as consistently good at it as Barry Corr - although who is. There was more to his game than just his targetman work but that was a critical part of his game and to how that team functioned. When he was replaced it was tellingly by Shaun Goater rather than a speedster who could get in behind defences.
