A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

On paper, we have the strongest back 4, plus an upgrade over Oxley, as in last 22 games (apart from Port Vales) our defending record is top 8 league 2 standard.

The defensive record was good because we had Nathan Ferguson shielding the back 4 and Elvis Bwomono locking up the right hand side of defence.

Elvis is likely gone and I don't think Brown fancies Ferguson.

I honestly don't believe Arnold is an upgrade on Oxley.

Arnold Is a decent signing for this level, but not better than Oxley.

When Oxley had a defence infront of him, he was brilliant ?? even last season, he cost us a few points but he earned us a lot more.
How can anyone comment on the ability of Arnold unless they’ve seen him across a whole season? It seems a common occurrence on here to negatively question new players before they’ve even been on our pitch. Trust that the management team know what they’re doing and give everyone a chance.

We also played a very defensive style of football. Hobson and White were a v good partnership also. Im sure Ferugson will get a chance but maybe Ogogo and Dunne will prove to be better. The biggest problem last season was scoring goals and creating chances. Brown has partially addressed this with the signing of Murphy but still a lot needed in my opinion.

3 days until the players are due in for their tests and to start pre-season training. Let's hope there are some more additions to the squad over the next 72 hours...

We may regret letting Akinola go. He was clearly suffering from injury for much of the season and he had a good record in the NL. Will Murphy alone be sufficient to get the goals we need? In 1936 Joe Payne scored ten goals in a single game for Luton v Bristol Rovers. Does he have any footballing descendants available for transfer to us I wonder......?

I can't see any signs of it on the official site, in fact the first team mug shots show him still with us. And for what it's worth Wiki also has him still with us. Mind you sod's law dictates that now I have posted this he will be off this morning!

I cannot stress enough how poor a piece of business it would be to let Akinola go. He scored 20 at this level two seasons ago, (yes, a few pens in there..), and he showed glimpses last season of what he can do.

Give him a stronger side around him and he'll do well for us next season.

Lol, thanks. thought perhaps I had missed something

Are we now in that zone where we need to know those that were offered contracts are staying before signing others? Like Steve Arnold was not announced until it was confirmed that Oxley had moved on??
In good part you would think very much so. Other than probably even if they all stay we need another striker at least.

Yes....I think we'll sign another striker and then it will be a waiting game to see whether Barnet take Akinola and ANG and whether Orient take their interest further with Elvis.

We will sign another striker, regardless of whether SA goes or stays.

There is a chance of a new face in the door before the start of pre-season, and expect to see trialist in for pre-season too. Both free agents, and potential loan deals.

I was told last week two are “close” with the GK being closest. I was expecting him to be announced today, but obviously got done before the weekend.

Without wishing to repeat things that have been said many time on here, I don't think we saw what Akinola is capable of doing. I don't think he was fully fit for most of the games he played.

Akinola is a very good player at this level but whether PB and his team sees things that way remains to be seen. For some reason, and I have no evidence to back this up, I think PB sees Akinola and ANG as players he might be able to use in part exchange for his own transfer targets.

Do you think the other 'close' one is the striker we are in talks with?

Not sure. Wasn’t given a name.

The striker is Jake Hyde. Had that confirmed by more than one person, and that’s still bubbling away. No idea if he is “close” or what though.
