OUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher is looking to add to his squad before Saturday’s season opener with York City.
The Blues head coach has brought in defenders George Wind and Joe Gubbins plus striker Josh Walker since the end of the previous campaign.
But he is still keen to make more signings.
“We need a couple more and we’re looking and working,” said Maher.
“It’s pretty obvious what we need too.
“We need competition for Collin (Andeng Ndi) and we’re looking in attacking areas as well which I’m sure it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out.
“We’re working hard and we’re trying to get one or two done.”
The Shrimpers remain in talks with ex Queens Park Rangers midfielder Rafferty Pedder who has impressed while on trial.
And Maher is keen to bolster his options.
“We’ve lost seven players since the end of last season and we’ve brought in two or three,” said the 47-year-old.
“We know we need two or three more but it’s important to get the right ones.
“We’re looking and we want to keep on trying to improve.”
But, when asked if the deals would be concluded before the weekend, Maher was not keen to go public with more details!
“It’s possible and we’re trying but we don’t want to give anything away,” said Maher.
“We can see where we’re short and we are trying to get one or two done.”
Blues are believed to have held talks with a goalkeeper currently on the books of a League One side plus a striker with National League experience.
