The sign anyone comment was a joke but even you have to admit getting moves over the line is frustrating and this is a very poor choice.

I’ll agree that it’s frustrating waiting for signings, however with Hopper, we won’t know if it’s a poor choice or not until we see him play for us (if we do sign him).

I mean most people wrote off Bim before he’d kicked a ball for us, and he worked out well for us.

Like all signings, I’d be prepared to give him a chance before writing him off.

If he’s even 60% of the player he was he’ll bring a lot to our team. Bim looked crap in figures. Hopper is class above what we have in hold up play alone. Don’t get the negativity at all.
I make you right in part, but i guess this isnt the type of signing people would be hoping for. If he comes good then great but 31 and only scored 7 goals in 81 games and for a team that probably creates more than we do.

I didn't say he was injury prone, This type of signing stinks of desperation when all we hear is we want hungry players, long term prospects that fit Kevs and the clubs ongoing culture etc etc for the future not old cast off's that cannot even get a place in your team.

It seems just like another stop gap in the whole process. We were told come January the White board had lots of prospects for us , now that seems to have been shoved down the toilet and it's lets get through to the Summer now and see how that pans out.

No disrepect to you.
No problem Cricko, I understand the disappointment some of you will be feeling, as you say the recruitment guys had lots of players lined up but maybe many of those were snapped up by others or simply didn’t want to come. I feel it might be a long road for the club financially to recover and of course that will reflect in the players you can sign. If Tom does come back it will be because the move suits him due to location, he is of an age that this might be his last move.

The ball didn't stick up the pitch at all against Barnet. Hopper fills a role we have lost.

He was excellent first time around and still plenty didn't rate him as many football fans do not understand that role. If he's half as good as that, he will improve us.
I thought he was very good first time round, but that was 3/4 years ago. Miley was good then too.

Seriously if this is the best our new recruitment process can unearth we are screwed good and proper. Loved him first time round but injury prone and hardly set L2 a light at Colshite. This is a desperate situation now
Injuries i can find include

Nov15 - 4 months out due to dislocated shoulder
Apr 17 - 1 Month out due to shin injury
Oct 18 - 12 months Cruciate Ligament injury
Mar 21 - 1 month out due to Hamstring injury
Sep 21 - 5 Months out due to stress fracture to his shin
Aug 23 - 1 Month out due to groin injury
Nov 24 - 1 Month out due to groin injury

I know Kev and Co was very keen on him coming last January prior to the Cowley brothers coming in at Colchester. Before they came in he was mostly on the bench but they came in and made him a starter for Colchester to lead the line

Ah I didn't make myself very clear there. My point was meant to be that, if people didn't rate him then, they definitely won't now!

I make you right on this front. Im not overly pleased if we do sign him but that's nothing against Tom im just sceptical about why we would go for someone like this. However he would get my 100% support and loved him first time round and you just never know. But we already have a similar type player in Bonne at the club so would it be a risk to bring another player in similar. lets hope he scores a hattrick on Saturday :Worthy:

Would be interesting to know @Colchester and proud! view on him

Hopper won't bring the goals personally, but he may just bring the goals out of others with his hold up play. The likes of Kendall and Walker can play off of him. The wouldn't be expected to drop deep, they could actually play on the shoulder. We have been crying out for a proper target man since Cardwell left. Pepple would have been even better next to a target man.
I wouldn't class Hopper as a target man myself. He has the ability to cover some of what a target man does but from his time with us he liked to also get in behind the defence and also run wide which doesn't fit in with our current style of play. For the hype Maher has given Cards since he left we haven't signed a striker who's preference is to receive the ball with his back to goal in a proper target man mould like you say yet still play like that. Bim was close but he also liked to run onto the ball.

He has never been a big goalscorer, it is the chances he creates for others. Yes he hasn’t played many games this season due to other strikers (Tovide and Taylor) being better strikers. But he is not injury prone, playing 41 games last season and 39 the one before.
Thanks mate at least his fitness isnt to be questioned. thats my bad as assumed he has been unfit without checking

If this is on the cards (no pun intended) then defo not the Striker we all crave, but I assume as hinted by other posters this would be an attempt to support and assist the Forwards already in the Club to produce the end product so obviously missing, another throw of the dice move? Also he is adapt at defending corners, which Kev made reference to the role Cards played for us and have failed to replace. Well not doubt will find out before long. Additionally if we were to also bring in the supposed targeted 'Striker' from NLS/NLN then this potentially could prove to be a more than useful acquisition.
