I make you right on this front. Im not overly pleased if we do sign him but that's nothing against Tom im just sceptical about why we would go for someone like this. However he would get my 100% support and loved him first time round and you just never know. But we already have a similar type player in Bonne at the club so would it be a risk to bring another player in similar. lets hope he scores a hattrick on Saturday :Worthy:

Would be interesting to know @Colchester and proud! view on him
I have put my thoughts on this thread already shrimperjon he is a good lad who would do well for you.

Before the cowleys arrived hopper wasn't getting game time and was definitely thinking of us but his wages were high and he wanted to wait to see how it panned out with the cowleys. Then when they came he was well thought of and despite some niggles he got some game time. Kelleher was also in the same position. He seems to have got decent performances in while hopper has been a bit forgotten. He has a soft spot for us though partly because of locality.
He would certainly give us passion and muscle, a presence in the air, and isn't scared to put his head where it hurts to score. A lower level Morrison who aggravates defenders.
Plus he wouldn't be phased by our crowds having been here before until the bad injury. I'd be happy to see him or cards back, if the financials could work out ok.

Tbf. We need an experienced and fit target man.

Hopper has played at league 1 and league 2 and has loads of experience.

He knows our club and could be a great asset as he really gets stuck in and has the know how to win headers, free kicks and hold the ball.

If this allows us to get higher up the pitch.

We need other signings for sure but hopper can be a vital part of that for us.

Big men score goals at this level.

No issue with Hopper coming in, as long as we really go for it in terms of a quality CAM that has a track record of assists and a few goals.

Failure to address our creativity issue and we could have Salah and Haaland up top not scoring in this team currently.

I'd love to see a player that just sits in the middle of the park and enjoys slotting a through ball between defenders for one of our strikers to run on to. Such a simple thing, but not one of our players is capable of that.

Perhaps I'm going mad, but I genuinely cannot remember the last time we scored a goal from a quality defence splitting pass from a midfielder and a striker beating the keeper in a 1v1. You know, that moment where the whole ground shout "Go on" as a ball is played through and the striker races away....there's a dramatic pause....then bang, crowd goes wild as the striker rounds the keeper and tucks it away. Halcyon days indeed.

COSU writing off this season... this is a tie us over till the end of season move.
Huge Summer for us

FWIW I don't actually mind this transfer think he can provide something we don't currently have.

A short term perm deal with a year option sounds like a good bit of business to me

He was great first time around for sure and was gutted when he left .. but if this is what our new recruitment set up could be I’m disappointed . surely there must be a younger striker from the league below would be worth taking a gamble on. Either way it an extra body through the door give him until end of season .
totally get the clamour for recruiting young talent from lower down but we have a lot of that type already. Eventually you end up with mostly a team of lower league players with lower league fitness and skillsets which isn't far off what we are already watching. That's if they can make the transition to full time fitness levels.
Feel some wiser stronger physical leader types would do us the world of good currently.
The above types and a loan or two of prem u23 players who have the fitness speed and skill and need to gain some experience

I don’t think anyone should be hitting the panic button over this. On paper, it’s an underwhelming signing as he hasn’t scored many. But it’s become increasingly clear that Kev’s style, and the other strikers, need a target man to be effective. If there’s no other standout target that we can get without paying way over the odds, then it makes sense in the short term. Which is fine, as does anyone genuinely believe we’re still in the promotion race this season?

Even if he plays the last 20 odd games and doesn’t score once, it’s still worth it if he gets the other strikers firing.

I was shot down for this at the time because it didn't fit our profile as he wasn't 25 or under, but I called for us to sign Josh Rees when he left Borehamwood. A Bonne and a Moncur later, plenty would walk over hot coals for him now. He would have been, and probably still would be, perfect for that role you speak of. He is still scoring and assisting.

We have two scouts that i know of at the club in John Still and Demi and am told we have another 10 around the country at least.
My understanding is the wider scouting team arent employed by the club so are likely doing scouting work for numerous clubs rather than just us and sharing scout reports across whichever clubs use their services. I may be wrong on that but I highly doubt any of these are paid directly from the club and probably get a small fee for any players they identify that are then signed.
