Matt Jay is a great little player and very unlucky to not be playing, word is if he plays another game we will owe Exeter another £75K, so as our midfield is so strong he has missed out.I think he is one of our better paid players because we had high hopes for him when he signed, my guess would be at least 3K a week. I think his family have struggled with the move from Devon so my guess would be if he drops down to the NL it would be Yeovil or Torquay in the league below. He will obviously have to take a huge wage cut so I feel he may just sit it out here until the summer.

Sounds much more likely, so we'll chalk this one off then.

Our fans used to be guilty of this until we got here too. Usually if somebody is poor in L2, they are poor in the NL. However you've been positive on both players so hopefully they'd do well if they joined.
Neither player is poor, they would be very good players in the NL if played to their strengths, Matt was on fire at Exeter just before we signed him but sadly it didn’t work out here. Take a look at him in 21/22 where did it all go wrong here it is a real shame.

TOM Hopper could be heading back to Southend United.

Colchester United boss Danny Cowley revealed last night that the hard-working striker had been given permission to speak with another club.

And it is believed Hopper – who had scored 10 goals in 30 games for Blues between 2018 and 2020 – could be coming back to Roots Hall.

Explaining the forward’s absence from the U’s squad for last night’s match at Harrogate Town, Cowley said: "There's potential that Tom might be leaving.

"We gave him permission to speak to another club and as a consequence, he wasn't able to travel with us.

"We think a lot of Tom.

"He's a great kid who works very, very hard for this team and for this club.

"He's a very important part of this dressing room, so we'll just wait to see how that one unfolds.

"These things happen quite regularly in January transfer windows and it's unfortunately coincided with a fixture."

Hopper joined Colchester from League One side Lincoln City in January, 2023.

The 31-year-old signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the U's, for an undisclosed fee.

Hopper has in total made 81 league and cup appearances for Colchester, scoring seven times.

But with Lyle Taylor, Samson Tovide and Tyreece Simpson now seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, a move away from Colchester to get game time might seem the best option for the experienced striker.

Seriously if this is the best our new recruitment process can unearth we are screwed good and proper. Loved him first time round but injury prone and hardly set L2 a light at Colshite. This is a desperate situation now
It certainly begs the question. What on Earth are our scouts doing these days if this is the best we can come up with.

This wouldn’t be a “process” signing obviously. It’s an emergency signing designed to bring some stability and experience on the pitch. Hopper will be there to help those around him
